We are living in times where stupid TV Anchors and Radio Right Wing extremists preach a Gospel of Hate and persecution, they can not hide their hate against Blacks, Latinos and Immigrants ( many of them Latinos, but not all ). That is nothing new in America, before the Second World War there was a Priest, preaching Racism and Hate on the Radio.

The Institute for Propaganda Analysis studied in the 1930s the rhetoric of Catholic American Priest Charles Edward Coughlin, whose popular radio broadcasts in the 1930s very often voiced anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi Racist Views. He was the predecessor of modern Hate TV and Hate Radio in America.

More than forty million tuned to his weekly broadcasts during the 1930s. Coughlin used his radio program to issue antisemitic commentary, and to rationalize some of the policies of Hitler and Mussolini. The broadcasts have been called "a variation of the Fascist agenda applied to American culture".

I saw a French Movie in Black and White. It was about Victor Klemperer (1881-1960), a Jew that lived in Dresden, Germany, during Hitler's brutal dictatorship, filled with hatred and persecution against Jews.

Before Hitler, he was a Respected Scholar teaching French Literature in Dresden University, but was fired by tye Nazis.

Victor Klemperer wrote what many feel is the best account of what day-to-day life was like for Jews in Third Reich Germany. Several diaries covering many decades of suffering with two World Wars and the Nazi Brutality to the end of World War Two.

He was extremely humilliated, beaten, kicked, etc ... during the Reign of the Nazis, he was abused and brutalized by the Gestapo, but he survived.

He was deprived of almost all rights, books, newspapers, magazines, paper, appliances, foods, his cat, etc ....

Without books, furniture, etc ... he managed to keep secret notes about the Brutalization and Degradation of the German Language, thanks to Hitler, Goebbels, the Nazis, the Gestapo, etc ...

He was brutalized by the Gestapo several times, but he survived, a true miracle. Always writing about the degradation of the German Language. He overcame the tragedy of his life by being always the Scholar, the Erudite and the Scientist.

The word "heroism", became extremely hollow to praise the Nazis. Fanatic "fanatisch" became positive and used hundreds of times a day. In the 18th century, it was used for madmen, the perturbed or mentally unbalanced. In the Third Reich, it was used to praise Nazi attitudes. "Fanatic" fighting was the euphemism for great military catastrophes, and "Crisis" was also used to cover up defeat. German soldiers died "fanatically" and "heroically". A word borrowed from commerce and foreign languages "liquidieren " (liquidate), became an euphemism for murder.

The Nazis hated Reason, Illustration, Erudition and Serious Studies. In order to pervert the minds of people, they also had to pervert the language.

I suspect that our American Neo Nazis also use a lot of Perverted Metaphors, Perverted Tricks and Perverted Blather in order to suspend the Reasoning of their listeners. You can see the stupidity and imbecility of the Ku Klux Klan and the White Supremacists in their videos and literature.

They use similar techniques to those Nazis of Hitler's Times to corrupt discourse and speech, and to reach fanaticism, extremism and bigotry. They repeat incessantly the same hate propaganda like parrots. And their listeners repeat also the same foolishness constantly and become also parrots without their own thoughts.

And those anchors of TV and Radio Host Talks are as sick as their predecessors in Nazi Germany.

Wilding in New York City :
Being surrounded by a gang of Brutal Teenagers that beat and kick you.

The word "wilding" comes straight from the "Clockwork Orange" movie. The "wilding spree" is a gang of sociopath teens in a rampage of violence against those that are week and defenseless.

The book was written by Anthony Burgess and the movie was filmed by Director Stanley Kubrick in 1971. It is one of the Greatest Masterpieces of Cinema.

'Anthony Burgess', lived for a time in Malaysia where his wife was beaten by four American GI's, thus giving inspiration to this story. In Malay, the word "orang" means man, like orangutan, "hutan" meaning jungle. The title of the novel is thus "The Mechanical Man", at least in Burgess mind.

This is a nightmarish fantasy of a future, where teenage hooligans neglect the laws of society and civilization, and take control of the streets after dark. The novel's main character, fifteen-year-old Alex, and his three thug friends called "droogs" in the weird language that they employ, enjoy all-night acts of random violence.

Wilding sprees are the last sport and fad in New York City, and the stage has been prepared by complacency and by authorities that tolerate and sow hate instead of preventing it.

This is crime without remorse, absolutely no empathy for the victims.

In the movie the gang of teens attacks a middle age couple in their home and rapes the wife, Alex, the main character sings "Singing in the Rain" as he beats and ties up the writer and his wife and later while raping the woman.

In the movie the gang takes a screaming wheelchair bound woman to a flight of stairs and then the sadists push her in the wheelchair down the stairs. The woman and the wheelchair tumbling down the stairs is displayed fully, there was no cut away.

Later Alex is discovered because of singing "Singing in the Rain" in the bathtub.

The pleasure of sadism and evil :

Alex DeLarge in the movie doesn't have to rationalize his behavior, he doesn't attempt to rationalize his behavior, he does what he wants because he enjoys it.

The Sadistic Teens become policemen in the movie. I hope that New York City gets better policemen in the future that the attackers and perpetrators of so many hate crimes that went unpunished in the 2000 to 2008 period. Or at least better officers and enforcers of the law that what they have now.

We should never forget the murders of two latinos in less than a month in New York City in 2008, Crimes commited by gangs of teen thugs. Like the Patchogue "Beaner Jumpers" that killed Marcelo Lucero for the pleasure of Sadism and Brutality and to satisfy their Idiotic Racism, that was in Long Island, New York, in November 2008.

I can not describe many other similar Racial Murders in the last two years for lack of space.

And do not forget Luis Ramirez, kicked to death in Shenandoah Pennsylvania during July 2008.

1911 The National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage (NAOWS) is organized. Led by Mrs. Arthur Dodge, its members included wealthy, influential women and some Catholic clergymen--including Cardinal Gibbons.

1913 Alice Paul and Lucy Burns organize a major suffrage parade in Washington, D.C. with over 5,000 women attending. The mistreatment of the marchers by the crowd and the police led to a great public outcry and the event was a media coup for the suffragists.

1917 Alice, Lucy and other Ladies decided to picket the White House and were arrested for "obstructing traffic" in the sidewalk of the White House. They refused to pay the fine and were sentenced to prison for sixty days. While in prison they were beaten by guards, tortured, and brutalized in many ways. Alice began a hunger strike when she was placed in solitary confinement for breaking a window to get fresh air.

She was bound in a straitjacket, denied access to a lawyer and forced to undergo psychiatric observation... She was found to be completely sane.

She pressed the other women that were arrested with her to join in the hunger strike. Eventually they were tied down and forced fed through tubes shoved down their throats. Alice managed to get her story out and it broke across the press quickly. When the public outcry became too loud to ignore, they were released from prison...

1920 Women's Right to Vote is approved in Congress.

1923 The National Woman's Party first proposes the Equal Rights Amendment to eliminate discrimination on the basis of gender. It has never been ratified.

I am not a blogger

I do not think I am a blogger. As much as I would like to write I find that I have not the time, the energy, nor the focus to write anything of substance. Since I cannot find the time or energy to write I am going to stop blogging. I am not a blogger. Heck, I am horrible at just keeping a personal journal.

With that said I will share my thoughts on a blog from Dave Bennion on Change.org. Dave recently wrote about crooked notaries who take advantage of immigrants who lack the knowledge and experience navigating the currents of commerce and paperwork in the U.S. It angers me to think of the greedy, corrupt people who rip-off poor immigrants for any reason, especially to push false dreams of obtaining a green card. Yet, I was once one of those people who took advantage of immigrants. I did not target them, they were just there, random victims who just happened to be easy targets to feed my need. It hurts just to write those words.

Sometimes I wonder if the immense passion I feel about immigration and helping immigrants stems from my past when I used their vulnerabilities to feed my "needs". Few people ever want to see the monster that may exist within. I have already, many times, traveled that painful road of introspection. I do believe that my passion is separate from my past misdeeds.

I write this piece in reference to my next and last post about my reactions to my first visit to the 18th Street "L" station in 22 years. When I talk about my past it is not to glamorize it or glorify it. There is no glamor and glory to anti-social behavior nor is there any glamor or glory to the stories that delivered a child to manhood with such fears, anger, violence, and addictions.

Once a teen approached me after I had talked about my past and said he wanted to be like me. I felt complimented. Before I could answer he added that since I could lead the life I had as a younger man then he too could party and be crazy and turn out "ok" like me. I guess people hear what they want to hear and will validate who they are with any evidence that they may misconstrue. To this young man I was glorifying my past. I have been very careful never to repeat that error.

There is no glory to wasting a life away.

Two days ago I received a call to help an undocumented worker who had worked for a subcontractor to lay carpet but was not paid for his services. He had worked a month and never was paid. Then he was laid-off. They wanted to know if I could help. I thrive on these opportunities. I feel like a chained pit bull ready to bite the ass off of some unscrupulous opportunist who knows that his victims will not risk calling the police.

The subcontractor was a Mexican who had a green card. That angers me more to think that someone would rip off their own kind. Capitalism breeds greed. Maximize profits. That is what illegal immigration is all about.

"Tienes cambio para veinte?" I asked in my broken Spanish to the lone man strolling down 18th Street on a summer Sunday in 1977. When he pulled out two tens I quickly grabbed them and said menacingly and coldly directly into his eyes"no puedes hacer nada." I pocketed the easily earned 20 and went on my way. Just one moment in the day. Just another business transaction of the street. Life as usual.

I felt as if I owned that piece of street between Paulina and Wood and the bars that existed on the block. There was one bar that I especially terrorized using bizarre rationalizing. The owner, a mean old Mexican woman named Pabla ran a slave trade where she would import young women from Mexico. In return they had to work in her bar for several years to repay her "kindness." Several of the women shared their stories of horror with me, but I was not into saving lives. Still, it upset my political sense of right and wrong. While I was exploiting the immigrants with petty crime I somehow had ire and empathy over the plight of these women. Barely a day went by without my presence in Pabla's bar causing havoc.

In 1980 I arrived in Utah. I jumped bail on some trumped up charges of armed robbery. It is a long story I will not delve into here. Although the charges were trumped up I still was guilty of many other crimes so I never cried about the situation. It is what it is.

My mother and my siblings were already here courtesy of the witness protection program. My mother was forced to testify against my former brother-in-law who smuggled heroin from Durango for the Herrara family, at that time a big-time Mexican crime family. In return they gave my mother and my siblings new identities. Another long story I will not go into.

After two years of working, coaching little league and becoming involved with my new community, I surrendered to the local authorities. So put down the phones, I am no longer a fugitive from justice.

When I think of all the crazy things in my life I wonder how many people there are in Utah who are here because they jumped bail on armed robbery charges and went to live with their family who were here on the Witness Protection program. Life is crazy. Life is funny.

Seven years earlier I was a high school student at Precious Blood Seminary in Liberty, Missouri. I was deeply interested in becoming a Priest. I have always been driven to serve and I wanted to serve God. I wanted to serve the only "true" church.

One Sunday while we were visiting Conception Abbey, a Catholic Monastery in Missouri, I found myself alone in their library. There were countless volumes of books written by long-dead men defending the faith during the period of the Protestant Reformation. Earlier that day we attended mass in a massive church. I had never experienced mass in this manner with men chanting as they once did centuries ago. The numerous statues and the chanting left me with the though that this was more sacred superstition that it was a movement of truth.

What is truth? A question many 16 year-old kids ask. A surge hit me at that moment. Truth is to be experienced through life and not through the intellectual discourses of countless volumes. None of this is true to me. There is no truth to this church. I had never felt so overwhelmed by a thought before. I had never felt so free as well.

Within a week I was back in Chicago. If the Catholic Church was not true then no church was true. Without religion my moral guidelines were skewed. I was basically a high school drop out without the emotional defense system and moral guidelines, forced by guilt and fear, that religion offered me.

I was ready to play full time on the pirate ship that the shady side of Pilsen was in the 70's. I was 16.

1980. Here I was in Utah. Mormon sister missionaries find us newcomers easily. They have a secret radar. The pair sat across me speaking about how Christ loves me. My mind wandered to the last seven years and where I had traveled-not physically but in the crazy fish tank experiences of life in Pilsen. I should be in prison. I should be dead. Some drunk once emptied his hand gun at me from about three car lengths away and somehow missed every shot. I heard bullets missile by my ears making a fierce sucking noise. Why was I here? How did I get out? I felt as if I was at the end of a bad journey-a bad dream that seemed more surreal than personal.

If the Catholic Church was not true then there could not be a God. I lived Godless for the last 7 years. Did Christ love me? It was the firm belief that he did that drove me unto the path to briefly consider the Priesthood. Did I take this mad journey of the last seven years for a reason? Could I become a new person?

Self-forgiveness was difficult. I had done many bad things. For some reason one incident stood out from all the others. At the time it happened it was a meaningless act of the street.

We roamed as a pack seeking a victim. A man walked out of the bar on Cermak and Paulina. He crossed the street and staggered into the alley walking east between Cermak and 21st Place. I made a gesture with the movement of my face to the others that this was our guy. We walked slowly behind him. The man was oblivious to the dangers of walking alone and drunk down a Chicago callejón.

We caught up to the man. He was probably in his early to mid 30's. He pleaded in Spanish with us to not hurt him. My knuckles responded to his plea by driving into his face with force enough to open a gash that drew a flow of blood. (It took me several attempts to type the word "knuckle"). It is hard for me to write about this without intense emotions running through me.

Ok. I can do this.

Tears are forming in my eyes as I write this.

I immediately put my hands in his shirt pocket and removed his money without anyone else noticing. As the man lay on the dirty alley ground they searched his pockets and wallet and found nothing. We left him there on the ground drunk with blood pouring from his face.

Pedro Morales did notice that I took money out of the man's pocket. He said nothing. He came to my house the next day and asked for a share. He said that his family had no money and he wanted to buy food for them. I gave him $30. He argued briefly that he deserved a bigger cut for not saying anything to the others. I found $150 in the pocket. I threatened Pedro and told him to be happy with what he had. He left.

The last time I saw Pedro he was a broken man. It was in 1978. He walked with his head down and he said not a word. A few months earlier he was savagely beaten by what he claims were Puerto Ricans. He was waiting for a bus on the north side one late night. He was wearing a nice leather coat that his assailants wanted. They jumped out of their car and traded the jacket for a beating of a lifetime. The beating left him in the hospital. He was not the same after the beating.

Here I was in Utah laying in bed and trying to forgive myself. I thought about this man in the alley. Of all people why was I thinking about this man? Did he have a family? Did he have kids? Was the money for his rent? Did his kids go without food because I stole their father's money? The thought that I made kids go without food until the next payday deeply disturbed me. Did one of his kids go without medicine because I took the money? I cried silently all night. I cried "please forgive me." But how could I ask forgiveness to a man I did not know?

Yet, I felt cleansed after that night of tearful sorrow. I have never taken anything that did not belong to me again. It feels good to exist in a world where honesty is the normal standard. There is nothing special or heroic about doing the right thing. We are supposed to do the right thing.

In my heart advocating for immigrants, refugees, and the elderly is the right thing. These are my passions in life. This is who I am.

In a few days I will write about my reactions and memories of using the 18th Street "L" station in 2004 for the first time in 22 years. It was my first time back since I was released from Cook County jail in 1982 after I surrendered to the local authorities for jumping bail.

Lately I've been surprised to find a few, not many, voices of the lgbtq community, getting all huffy about illegal immigration. It's not that this is anything new, sadly, but rather, I'm the one who is new to this kind of nativist sentiment from people I assumed would be more progressive minded, liberal, and accepting of others in our midst whom are oppressed.

I guess I naively thought that being gay automatically meant that you would be more progressive-minded than straights. I naively thought for sure that being gay meant that you had somewhat more of a taste of what oppression was, even if you were straight-laced in every other way, and that you'd recognize who else was getting a slice of the oppression pie.

I naively thought that being gay automatically meant that you'd be more supportive of immigrant rights; that you wouldn't be spewing out the same "what part of illegal don't you understand" crap, because you'd experience firsthand what it meant to be scapegoated and considered second class. I guess I was wrong.

I didn't have to look far. I found a website for gay conservatives, one lesbian feminists' blog, and even a gay guy on Yelp who, like me, has an undocumented immigrant partner, supports the UAFA, but unlike me, insists that he is "staunchly anti-Illegal Immigration", and that the right for gays to marry foreign nationals for citizenship purposes is strictly a gay rights issue, not an immigrant rights issue. (BTW, How can it NOT be an immigrant rights issue, when it affects the rights of your immigrant partner?) It's as if his partner was nothing without him.

I'm sure there are gay people out there who are aware of guys like me who have an undocumented partner, and who are glad that I support the UAFA, but do not consider my relationship to be as good an example of what it means to be a bi-national couple because my partner is breaking the law by being here.

We are somehow less worthy.

It saddens me that some gay people obviously rank oppressions, that some gay people think "Gay is the new Black".

FYI, it's not a contest.

Gay and undocumented are not mutually exclusive groups. Some are both, and just because you're a member of only one of them doesn't mean you can't fight for the other.

Some are both, and then in addition to those, some also have membership to more oppressed groups, like the homeless and the disabled. Do I have to choose between fighting for the rights of the homeless, and the rights of disabled? What would the homeless and disabled people think? And what would the homeless and disabled and undocumented think?

It saddens me to know that some gays feel that undocumented immigrants shouldn't be getting what they want because, after all, they are "not supposed to be here"(A lesbian co-worker said that to me once), so therefore they are not real citizens, and therefore not deserving of the rights of the law abiding citizens, or even the rights of the law-breaking ones.

Is there an unwritten rule that the oppressed must first fight amongst themselves before they can begin to fight their enemy, even if the enemy is a common one to them all?

Does being a member of one oppressed group mean that you can't fight for the rights of other oppressed groups?

Do we fight for Justice, or is it "Just Us"?

Watching Munoz, 44, distribute meals and offer extra cups of coffee, it's clear he's passionate about bringing food to hungry people. For more than four years, Munoz and his family have been feeding those in need seven nights a week, 365 days a year. To date, he estimates he's served more than 70,000 meals. When Mr. Muñoz’s truck pulled in, several workers pressed their faces to the tinted windows, hoping to catch a glimpse of dinner. Hopping into the back of the truck, Mr. Muñoz began untying steaming containers filled with hot chocolate and foil-covered trays of homemade barbecued chicken. As the workers accepted Styrofoam containers stuffed with hearty portions of chicken and rice, they thanked him as respectfully as if he were a parent, never mind that the 5-foot-2 Mr. Muñoz, with his buzz cut and boyish grin, could pass for 20-something.

“God bless you,” one burly worker said as he dug into his meal. “I haven’t eaten in three days.”

Mr. Muñoz replied with a smile, “You can eat here every day at 9:30.”

The relationship between Mr. Muñoz and many of the men he feeds is personal. “Uribe, you want more coffee?” he asked as he saw a familiar face. “Simon, do you want seconds on this pasta?”

In a way, Mr. Muñoz seems to need these men as much as they need him. His unofficial meal program gives meaning and focus to his life. He is as eager to help his motley clientele as they are to be helped.

“I know these people are waiting for me,” he said of the emotions that fuel his quixotic and perhaps obsessive crusade. “And I worry about them. You have to see their smile, man. That’s the way I get paid.”

I have read about Rigo Padilla, a student from Chicago, living in the USA since he was six years old. He is going to be expulsed of the United States because of a small common Traffic Violation.

It makes me remember the Broadway Musical "Fiddler on the Roof" and the movie.

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905.

Fiddler on the Roof was originally entitled Tevye. It is based on Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Milkman) and other tales by Sholem Aleichem which he wrote in Yiddish and published in 1894.[1] The story centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives.

Tevye and daughters were dislodged and dispossessed.

The poor Jews of Russia were subject to Progroms, riots to expulse them from Russia or from the area where they lived, sometimes they were killed and sometimes the Tsarist Government was the agent of eviction and dislodgement.

Notes From the Immigration Battlefield

The day of the march dawned wet, cold and calm. The crowd at City Hall grew to about 300, then set off for the Border Patrol office, three miles away. They looked like any Americans, though maybe more cheerful. They chanted and sang and got soaked. The ink on their signs bled. They looked like poor people marching for a better life, the kind we root for in movies like “The Grapes of Wrath.”

Drivers gave friendly honks, but not everyone was nice. A guy on a townhouse balcony silently held up a Confederate flag as the Latinos marched by. When he saw my camera, he became a frightened little man. He whipped the flag behind his back, as if it were a dirty magazine.

At the march’s end, a band of Minutemen with American flags and bullhorns was waiting across the road. “We support the Border Patrol!” they yelled over four lanes of blacktop. “Viva la Migra!”

I had thought these outnumbered soldiers might be tense. But I saw no fear, only loathing. It was a party! I met a smiling man named Jim. “What’s your heritage?” he asked. As immigrant sons, we talked about what a great country it was.

I asked him why we couldn’t all just get along. He said because these aliens were not the good Ellis Island kind. They were soaking California for billions in social-service tax dollars while hatching evil schemes. “Reconquistas,” he called them, citing a Mexican plot to seize the U.S.A. through mass migration. It’s fictional, but Jim believed it.

He gave me his card.

Mr. Gilchrist founded the Minutemen. I asked for a picture. He pointed to a tree and suggested posing there.

“With a noose hanging from it?” he said.

“Pardon me?”

“With a noose hanging from it?”

I asked him to repeat it again. He said he was joking. I tried to make the words fit together as humor, but couldn’t.

I went to the Latino side, where the singing was better. The speeches were interrupted when shoving broke out on the Minuteman side. Uh-oh.

I ran over and got Mr. Gilchrist out of a huddle. He told me one of his troops had been spit on by a reconquista. He was keeping everybody calm while the victim, a frail-looking woman, got ready to press charges.

A police officer was taking statements. A lawyer for the marchers, a skinny white guy, put a gentle hand on her shoulder. “Did he really spit on you?” he asked.

“No,” she said, “but he could have.”

It was a Perry Mason moment. But it was more. It was the Minuteman worldview wrapped up in one sad little psychodrama: The alien threat, so scary, yet so imaginary. The officer took note.

Living through the Civil Rights Movement. Is there HOPE for the Future?

I grew up during the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. My Dad, Mom and siblings suffered from the racism of that era. My Dad was a migrant worker/field supervisor. His peers were white. However, he was not allowed to eat at the same lunch counter, drink from the same fountain nor use the same bathroom as his peers, even though he worked side by side with them in the fields.

In the late sixties, the Civil Rights Act was passed and the law said we were all equal. The Jim Crow laws were cast aside. They were against the law. In reality, they continued on for many years. In the late sixties, riots occurred as minorities spoke out against the continuing abuses. (We are reliving these same times today!)

I didn't understand racism. As a child, I too was a migrant worker. In first grade, in Catholic school, I didn't understand the reason the other children laughed at me when I stuttered in shyness. They thought I stumbled over my words because I was a stupid mexican. They whispered to themselves I was a dumb mexican. When the nun explained to them that I was just as intelligent as they were, most were skeptical.

However, my advocate, our teacher, the nun, helped me and all other students understand that I was their equal and I was just as intelligent as they were. Like them, I could be anything I wanted to be.

Through the sixties, most teachers explained to all their students, we were ALL equal. There was discrimination and injustice in the past, but that time was over. Not all teachers said this. I remember a few predicted I was going to get pregnant and I should take typing/vocational courses because I was never going to college and college prep courses wouldn't help me. It is a good thing I didn't listen to them.

In the late sixties, the riots occurred. I marched alongside other equal rights believers of all colors. We thought we could change the world. We thought all of us were equal. Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty, we were free at last.

After I finished my education, I started working for a large corporation and gradually progressed upwardly as a manager, continuing my education. I was going to be "That Girl!" I was going to have a career, a family, and be as equal as every other American in this glorious United States of America.

It is unbelievable to think so much change has occurred within one lifetime, my lifetime.

In the 70's, I met my husband, a big, handsome, strapping, lumberjack of an Irish American guy. We fell in love. In 1978 we married. In 1979 we had our first son. In 1985, we had our second son. Now, we have two young grandsons.

I thought we overcame the racism of the past. Little did I know that after 9/11, the racist groups who felt such a loss after the Civil Rights movement, who were still hanging on to their racist beliefs, would come back to haunt us.

The Italians were called "Dagos" and considered non Whites by the authorities and bigots of New Orleans in 1891, Big masses of people in Lynchings of Many Italians, wrongly accused of a crime. The Movie depicts Tons of Racism against Italians.

David C. Hennessy (1858 – 16 October 1890) was the police chief of New Orleans, Louisiana, from 1888 until his death. His death, supposedly at the hands of Italian immigrants, but more probably from a political rival, was the catalyst of a large anti-Italian sentiment and a wave of Anti-Italianism.

Historian Humbert S. Nelli concluded that Hennessey as chief of police was involved in some way regulating organized crime activity. Nelli also concluded that his execution might have been a way to frame Italian Americans.

Hennessy was awake in the hospital for several hours after the shooting, and spoke to friends, but did not name shooters. The next day complications set in, he took turn for worse and died. A rumor spread that his dying words were, "Dagos did it".

In the movie Police Chief David Hennessy is presented as firm and tough but kind to Italians. He has sympathy for the Southern Europeans, and he knows what is Racism because he is Irish, also despised by the higher authorities of New Orleans, that say that it was a mistake to bring the Irish and the Italians as a defense against the Blacks, and because of fear of Blacks. The Rich and the Authorities of New Orleans see the Italians as a threat because they are progressing a lot in business.

The Italian "Mafia" in New Orleans was soft and had not killed people yet, but there was a lot of fear of those guys, that may have prompted the Mass Murder and Lynching of 20 Italian Innocents, with great participation and fury of the City People.

A group of 20 Italians ( Italians were called "Dagos" as an offense word ) were indicted without any proof. After being acquitted by an Impartial Jury they were brutally shot and lynched by a Big Mob in New Orleans. Some of them were hung from the lamposts of New Orleans.

Based on a true story, a ruthless cabal of businessmen and their political cronies seek to wrest control of the New Orleans docks from a leading italian family. Their methody? unleashing the animal rage of an angry mob and lighting a powder keg known as vendetta.

While history books often use the 1921 Sacco and Vanzetti case as an example of justice falling victim to the bigotry of the times, this HBO movie--based on a turn-of-the-century New Orleans trial--provides a far more sobering example. Vendetta opens with a montage of black-and-white photos of immigrants arriving in the U.S., accompanied by an audio track of anti-immigrant invective that sets the tone for the rest of the movie.

Christopher Walken lends his always unsettling presence as the city's largest cotton exporter and mastermind of a plot to take over the docks from the Italian immigrants who run them. When police chief David Hennessy (Clancy Brown) refuses to go along with the plan, he's shot and killed, and a random group of Italian produce merchants are accused of the murder. The trial and its appalling aftermath are portrayed with a realistic vehemence that may make some viewers flinch.

The death of Hennessy became a rallying cry for law enforcement and nativists to stop the immigration of Italians into America. For decades after, New Orleans children of other ethnicities would often taunt Italian Americans with the phrase, "Who kill-a the Chief?"

Appraisal of this Movie as Art :

This movie is a Tragedy, like a Shakesperean Tragedy, and it is Great Art and Great Cinema. You feel a lot of Identification with the Italian Family, with their Hopes and Joys and with their sorrows, with the Old Man and Woman and the very young son that looks like a grandson. Wonderful Actors.

Some of the Italians are larger than life, Mythical Heroes. At first I thought that they were little scoundrels or little mafiosi, but later they are superheroes of Strength, Endurance, Faith and Decency. They grow with adversity.

The movie "Troy of 2004", with Brad Pitt as Achiles and directed by Wolfgang Petersen is also a Tragedy, but you do not feel sadness, compassion, etc for the losers. And you do not experience tenderness, catharsis or release. Troy is just fun and adventure and that is OK.

But "Vendentta ( 1999 )" is a big tragedy that stays in your soul, and fills you with sadness but also with hope because there are good people in the movie, You feel a lot of tenderness and love for the Italians.The American Lawyers are also decent Human Beings with a heart. The Movie is curative and cathartic, with a big release of tension.

This is Great Movie Art !

Description :

Andy, an unruly middle class suburban teen is the blond girl, alone in grave danger in the desolate desert of Castle Rock when her grandfather (Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine) suffers a stroke, he suddenly collapses with a heart attack. Alone and afraid, Andy has only her faithful dog Farley as a companion and protector. Meanwhile, Antonio, a handsome drifter on the run from the law, has also become lost in the area ( this is a very big park with weird hills or erosion formations of the Southwest ). Antonio is in a desperate attempt to to escape the police search party that pursues him and perhaps reach Mexico.

Two worlds collide when Andy and Antonio find themselves thrown together in a harrowing struggle for survival in which the two must put aside their differing backgrounds and learn to trust one another. With nothing to lose, the two embark on a journey of trust, faith, and perseverance that ultimately leads to their own redemption. They are rescued and have a crush for each other.

Comments by Vicente :

The Movie may be unrealistic or naive for the Present Times, but this is a Great Movie and Art, this is Great Cinema. I think that this is a remake of another movie of a White Pilot that loses his way and finds himself lost in the Artic, and he also finds an Eskimo Girl, who is also lost. They become good friends as well, like in "Castle Rock".

The Photography, Colors and Art of "Castle Rock" are superb. This is a Children's movie with great value for those that love animals and the Arizona or Southwest Desert or Deserts. With lizzards, rattlesnakes, coyotes, wolves, dog, etc. ...

This movie will be more popular in the Future, when People are less racist and prejudiced.

It is also of great interest for those that explore the Human Heart and the values of Kindness, Understanding, Compassion, Mutual Help, lack of Prejudice, and those that want to replace Hate with Love.

The two main actors the Blond Girl Andy and the Central American Antonio were chosen by their beautiful looks. She is very Nordic and extremely white and blue eyed. He is darker than most Mexicans or Central Americans, and probably was chosen because of his good looks or handsomness, he is somewhat like an Aztec or Maya.

I hope that this movie returns fame or money to the Producers, Director or Artists. Perhaps in the Future.

This has been recognized and acknowledged by many Great Artists in America, specially in the Movie Industry.

"O Brother, Where Art Thou?" and "The Blues Brothers" show the Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan in all their ridiculousness and Imbecility. The best mix of musical, comedy, and adventure movies.


"O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

( With actor George Clooney ) A bluegrass or "country music" comedy is one of the best musicals that I have ever seen. The Ku Klux Klan and Racists of Louisiana are encountered by fugitive convicts. The KKK Racists dance like fools.

And the jail birds and fugitives have rescue a friend, prisoner of the KKK, the convicts have to treat the White Supremacists as the cyclops in Homers Ulysses, with fire from their own burning crosses.

There is a lot of Racism laughed at and defeated in this movie.

The convicts form a bluegrass band that makes you laugh a lot. The music is superb, the dancing and the madness of the audiences or crowds in the movie, at the end music performs the miracle and Louisiana becomes tolerant and friendly to Black People.


The Blues Brothers :

The Blues Brothers ( with actor John Belushi ) are also White Convicts from a jail but are very humane and very kind to the poor and the weak, and to Black People.

They constantly say that the Illinois Nazis are Idiots, and they treat these White Supremacists as it corresponds with Great Cinematographic Stunt Pranks. There are even Racist Speeches by the Nazis. The Blues Brothers are very irreverent with everybody but specially with the Illinois Nazis.

There is a great destruction of cars in Chicago, mostly police cars. This is a record in property destruction. One of the most wonderful musicals ever filmed and very humane in the drama.

It is not necessary to repeat or add that the dancing is fabulous and the Music can not be better.


Another movie that portrays American Nazis and White Supremacists : "Betrayed" (1988)

There is a scene where actor Tom Berringer, who's a leader of a Klan-like organization, meets some Nazis at some big white supremacist get-together, and he freaks out on them. "My daddy fought those goddamn Nazis in the war!" So the Nazis decide to mingle with more friendly white supremacists and excuse themselves, but not before offering a good-bye Hitler salute. Berringer's reaction ("Oh, Jesus!") is priceless.


Conclusion :

The KKK, the White Supremacists, the Aryan Nation, are nothing but a bunch of losers, as defined by the wife of an "Imperial Wizard" ... This guys should be playing "Imperial Wizards" and "Grand Dragons" with "Harry Potter" and "the Lord of the Rings", because that is the level of their intelligence. They should be playing Halloweeen with their ridiculous customes and bastard unhistorical symbols.
