Justice hasn't been served in the murder of Luis Ramirez.
Ramirez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was kicked to death in a fight with teens last summer in the central Pennsylvania town of Shenandoah. There was enough evidence of a hate crime for prosecutors to file charges of ethnic intimidation in addition to murder.

Two of the teens went on trial in Schuylkill County this spring. Brandon Piekarsky, 17, was accused of third-degree murder; Derrick Donchak, 19, was charged with aggravated assault.

On May 1, the all-white local jury came back with its verdict. Both defendants were convicted only of simple assault, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in jail. Donchak also was found guilty of supplying alcohol to minors.

But no one has been convicted of killing Ramirez, 25, a father of two.

The U.S. Justice Department reportedly has been investigating this crime. A third teenager, Chris Walsh, already pleaded guilty to federal civil-rights charges and agreed to testify against Piekarsky and Donchak. A fourth teen is awaiting trial as a juvenile.

Gov. Rendell on Friday asked the Justice Department to pursue civil rights charges in the case.

In light of the verdict in Schuylkill County Court, federal authorities should step up their efforts to bring Ramirez's killer or killers to justice. The trial verdict has sent the message that the community is willing to look the other way when an immigrant is killed in front of multiple witnesses in the middle of town.

Tensions between Latino immigrants and whites in the region have been building for years. Those emotions boiled over on the night of July 12, 2008, near the Vine Street Park in Shenandoah, a town of about 5,600.

Testimony indicated that a group of teenage boys confronted Ramirez when they saw him with a 15-year-old girl. The victim was in a relationship with the girl, although he was also engaged to the 24-year-old mother of his two children.

Prosecutors said Walsh knocked Ramirez to the ground with a punch to the head, and they contended that Piekarsky delivered the fatal blow by kicking the victim's head. As the teenagers fled the scene, a retired Philadelphia police officer heard one of them yell, "Tell your [expletive] Mexican friends to get the [expletive] out of Shenandoah or you'll be [expletive] laying next to him."

The beating left Ramirez foaming from the mouth. He died of head injuries two days later in a hospital. Defense attorneys for Donchak and Piekarsky blamed the other teens for causing Ramirez's death.

A few months after Ramirez died, Donchak showed up at a Halloween party wearing a T-shirt saying "U.S. Border Patrol." His attorney said it didn't reflect what is in his heart.

The Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund has called the verdict an outrage and is urging people to sign an online petition at www.maldef.org.

MALDEF is asking the Justice Department's civil-rights division to file hate-crimes charges against those responsible for the slaying.

Federal officials need to step in more aggressively. There has been no full measure of justice yet for a murder in the public square.

Rendell has recommended that the Department of Justice pursue civil rights charges against two Schuylkill County individuals involved in the beating of Mexican immigrant Luis Ramirez in Pottsville on July 12, 2008. Ramirez died two days later as a result of his injuries, which included two skull fractures.

The Governor said that the evidence and testimony presented during the trial justified charges against Brandon Piekarsky and Derrick Donchak for violating Ramirez's civil rights. Governor Rendell noted that one of the co-conspirators in the case, Colin Walsh, has already plead guilty to civil rights violations.

"The evidence suggests that Mr. Ramirez was targeted, beaten and killed because he was Mexican," wrote Governor Rendell in the letter. "This beating was so brutal and violent that Mr. Ramirez's skull was crushed in two different places. This senseless and cowardly attack appears to have been a hate crime as racial slurs were hurled against Mr. Ramirez throughout the fatal assault.

"Such lawlessness and violence hurts not only the direct victim of the attack but also our towns and communities that are torn apart by such bigotry and intolerance.

That is why I am pleased that the Department of Justice is presently investigating whether to bring civil rights charges against Piekarsky and Donchak for their role in the fatal beating of Mr. Ramirez. I believe that justice and fairness mandate such a prosecution."

After the jury rendered its decision earlier this month, Governor Rendell wrote the county's district attorney, James Goodman, stating his belief that Piekarsky and Donchak deserved the maximum possible sentence for their roles in the savage assault and killing of Ramirez.

I had the most horrible experience of Animal Odors, a House of a Mad Lady with five dogs, they do not know what is a bath and soap, never any disinfection against fleas.

My wife threw up and almost passed out and was dizzy and extremely angry.

The strong guys in the truck rebelled and did not want that load of stinking stench.

But I like to earn a penny - Finally I cajoled the guys with my personal example and we moved that damned load.

The story gets worse because I am in charge of the Warehouse where the furniture, pissed beds and mattresses are stored.

Fortunately we have had some sunny days, and I am taking the furniture out to a big patio to receive the benefit of the sun's radiation.

My wife bought some bicarbonate and chloral disinfectants and we fumigated the furniture and added some liquid soda and other chemicals.

The situation is improving.

To me this is the perfect metaphor for Fox News and the Idiots that are interviewed by Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck as if they were the Maximun in Juridical Wisdom, Great Jurisprudence and Judicial Acumen, when in fact they are only perfect idiots and clowns. Scientists believe they have found the "missing link," an ancient primate fossil some 47 million years old which is thought to the common ancestor to all later monkeys, apes and humans.

The nearly perfect skeleton, classified as Darwinius masillae, was found in Germany. It's a she, about the size of a small cat, with four legs and a long tail and lived for about 9 or 10 months.

The creature, which scientists nicknamed Ida after lead researcher Jorn Hurum's 6-year-old daughter, is not a direct ancestor of monkeys and humans, but it provides a good indication of what such an ancestor may have looked like, researchers said.

Primate Fossil Could Be Key Link in Evolution

Scientists say a 47-million-year-old fossil found in Germany may be a key link to explain the evolution of early primates, and, ultimately, modern human beings. The fossil, of a young female that probably resembled a modern-day lemur, is described as "the most complete primate fossil ever found." It is small -- with a body about the size of a raccoon -- but it has characteristics found in later primates and in humans.

It has, among other things, opposable thumbs, similar to humans' and unlike those found on other modern mammals. It has fingernails instead of claws. And by examining the structure of its hind legs (one of which is partly missing), scientists say they can see evidence of evolutionary changes that would eventually lead to primates standing upright.

An ancient grave unearthed in modern-day Israel is likely one of the earliest known shaman burial sites. Israeli archaeologists say the grave contains 50 tortoise shells, a human foot and body parts from numerous animals.

The 12,000-year-old grave, is said to date back to the Natufian people. These were the first people to adopt a sedentary lifestyle. The grave -- of a woman -- was discovered in a the nature preserve along the Hilazon River near the northern Israeli town of Carmiel.

The Israeli team found the bones in a small cave that served as a Natufian burial chamber for a least 28 people.

The woman found in the grave was interred with some unusual items.

Dr. Leore Grosman of the Institute of Archaeology, Hebrew University, said, "While excavating the grave down we excavated through a very large stone and found a lot of tortoises and in final count, we know today that we have at least 50 tortoises. Not only that, each part of her body, next to parts of her body were really interesting animal bones from a pelvis of a leopard and a white boar, a white pig under her arm to a third foot of a different person" .

At the time of burial, more than 10 large stones were placed directly on the head, pelvis, and arms of the elderly woman, whose body was lain on its side. The legs were parted and folded inward at the knee.

The interment rituals and the method used to construct and seal the grave suggest this to be the earliest known burial of an ancient shaman from the region and one of the earliest known from the archaeological record.

Shamans still play an important role in many cultures. They serve their community, acting as mediators between the human and spiritual worlds,act as messengers between the worlds, acting as healers and magicians.

The grave revealed several artifacts whose likenesses were later to become central to the the symbolism of the spirit world world wide.

It's one of the ironies of history that Aryan, a word nowadays referring to the blond-haired, blue-eyed physical ideal of Nazi Germany, originally referred to a people who looked vastly different. Its history starts with the ancient Indo-Iranians, peoples who inhabited parts of what are now Iran, Afghanistan, and India.

The Sanskrit speakers, or Aryas as the called themselves descended to India from the steppes of southern Russia (from the Andronovo culture). They used the term Arya, which means noble in Sanskrit, to designate themselves from the indigenous Dravidian and Elamite peoples.

The term Aryan first appeared in India, in the Rig Veda, however, the people that used this term migrated to India from the north west.

The first evidence of Indo Aryan language we have is from 1600BC in Syria. The Mittani were a Hurrian people living in Syria, but amazingly their kings spoke an Indo-Aryan language. There is a horse training manual by Kikkuli written in this language, very similar to Sanskrit. A treaty between the Mittani and the Hittites even calls Vedic gods such as Indra and Varuna to witness!

It has been proposed that after the Indo-Aryans and the Iranians broke off from the Andronovo culture the Iranians stayed in the north while the Indo-Aryans moved south. Some believe that the Indo-Aryans were not only in Syria and India, but spread across the whole middle east, and that the reason why the Mittani Aryans in Syria and the Indian Aryans were separated was because of the arrival of Iranians in what is now called Iran.

In present-day academia, the terms "Indo-Iranian" and "Indo-European" have made most uses of the term 'Aryan' obsolete, and 'Aryan' is now mostly limited to its appearance in the term "Indo-Aryan" to represent (speakers of) North Indian languages.

Sahelanthropus tchadensis is a fossil ape that lived approximately 7 million years ago. It is sometimes claimed as the oldest known ancestor of Homo (humans) post-dating the most recent common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees. It was a species of Miocene ape, related to humans and the living African apes.


Fossils

Existing fossils – a relatively small cranium nicknamed Toumaï ("hope of life" in the local Tebou language of Chad), five pieces of jaw and some teeth – make up a head that has a mixture of derived and primitive features. The braincase, being only 340 cm³ to 360 cm³ in volume is similar to that of extant chimpanzees and is notably less than the approximate human volume of 1350 cm³. The teeth, brow ridges, and facial structure differ markedly from those found in Homo sapiens. Due to the distortion that the cranium has suffered, a 3D computer reconstruction has not been produced. Since no postcranial remains (bones below the skull) have been discovered, it is as of yet unknown whether Sahelanthropus tchadensis was indeed bipedal, although claims for an anteriorly placed foramen magnum suggests that this may have been the case, although some paleontologists have disputed this interpretation of the basicranium. Its canine wear is similar to other Miocene apes.

The fossils were discovered in the Djurab desert of Chad by a team of four; three Chadians, Adoum Mahamat, Djimdoumalbaye Ahounta and Gongdibé Fanone, and the French team leader Alain Beauvilain. All known material of Sahelanthropus were found between July 2001 to March 2002 at three sites (TM 247, TM 266 which yielded most of the material, and TM 292). The discoverers claimed that S. tchadensis is the oldest known human ancestor after the split of the human line from that of chimpanzees. The bones were found far from most previous hominin fossil finds, which are from Eastern and Southern Africa. However, an Australopithecus bahrelghazali mandible was found in Chad by the Sahelanthropus' discoverers as early as 1993.


Relationship to modern humans and great apes

Sahelanthropus may represent a common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees; though most scientists disagree. Evidence supports the fact that S.tchadensis did in fact walk upright, though no-one can be positive. The original placement of this species as a human ancestor but not a chimpanzee ancestor would complicate the picture of human phylogeny. In particular, if Toumaï is a direct human ancestor, then its facial features bring the status of Australopithecus into doubt because its thickened brow ridges were reported to be similar to those of some later fossil hominids (notably Homo erectus), whereas this morphology differs from that observed in all australopithecines, most fossil hominids and extant humans.

Another possibility is that Toumaï is related to both humans and chimpanzees, but is the ancestor of neither. Brigitte Senut and Martin Pickford, the discoverers of Orrorin tugenensis, suggested that the features of S. tchadensis are consistent with a female proto-gorilla. Even if this claim is upheld, then the find would lose none of its significance, for at present precious few chimpanzee or gorilla ancestors have been found anywhere in Africa. Thus if S. tchadensis is an ancestral relative of the chimpanzees (or gorillas) then it represents the first known member of their lineage. Furthermore, S. tchadensis does indicate that the last common ancestor of humans and chimpanzees is unlikely to resemble chimpanzees very much, as had been previously supposed by some paleontologists.

Unfortunately, the exact age of the fossil is somewhat hard to determine. While molecular clocks are increasingly found to be far more unreliable than initially believed, sediment isotope analysis which yielded an age of about 7 million years is generally considered quite reliable. In this case however, the fossils were found partially exposed in loose sand; co-discoverer Beauvilain cautions that such sediment can be easily moved by the wind, unlike packed earth. The sediment surrounding the fossils might thus not be the material the bones were originally deposited in, making it necessary to corroborate the fossil's age by some other means. The fauna found at the site – namely the anthracotheriid Libycosaurus petrochii and the suid Nyanzachoerus syrticus – suggests an age of more than 6 million years, as these species were probably extinct already by that time

While Robinson's trial gives the film its momentum, there are plenty of anecdotal occurrences before and after the court date: Scout's ever-strengthening bond with older brother Jem (Philip Alford), her friendship with precocious young Dill Harris (a character based on Lee's childhood chum Truman Capote and played by John Megna), her father's no-nonsense reactions to such life-and-death crises as a rampaging mad dog, and especially Scout's reactions to, and relationship with, Boo Radley (Robert Duvall in his movie debut), the reclusive "village idiot" who turns out to be her salvation when she is attacked by a venomous bigot. Through the eyes of "Scout," a feisty six-year-old tomboy, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD carries us on an odyssey through the fires of prejudice and injustice in 1932 Alabama. Presenting her tale first as a sweetly lulling reminiscence of events from her childhood, the narrator draws us near with stories of daring neighborhood exploits by she, her brother "Jem," and their friend "Dill." Peopled with a cast of eccentrics, Maycomb ("a tired and sleepy town") finds itself the venue of the trial of Tom Robinson, a young black man falsely accused of raping an ignorant white woman.

Atticus Finch, Scout and Jem's widowed father and a deeply principled man, is appointed to defend Tom for whom a guilty verdict from an all-white jury is a foregone conclusion. While some argue that this was just a “street fight gone wrong,” the facts that include racial slurs and relentless beatings cannot be ignored.

While the men yelled racial epithets at Ramirez, they punched and kicked his head and body so severely that he lay foaming at the mouth with two skull fractures.

Once Ramirez was on the ground he was continually kicked until brain matter leaked from his skull.

Even if the boys’ intentions were not to kill him, it is important to note that hatred fueled the beating and the attackers did not stop even when he could no longer fight back.

Since when do we not punish murderers just because the death was unintended? In fact, there is an entirely different judgment for those kinds of situations.

Latino or not, this ruling affects everyone because it tells people that in America, not all people have the same rights. If this is true for Ramirez, it could be true for any of us. Everyone should feel personally invested in his story, if not for Ramirez and other people like him, but for the principle this incident illustrates.

While the media try to spin Ramirez’s character into that of a low-life, lazy illegal immigrant, nothing changes the fact that a man was beaten to death.

Many people throughout this country have no sympathy for illegal immigrants and feel that any violence directed toward them is justified and should be expected. The issue of legal and illegal immigrants cannot continue to be viewed with such disdain.

As long as the law does not safeguard basic human rights, hatred for Latin Americans and all immigrants will grow-, ultimately making these stories much more common.

SHENANDOAH, Pa. — Ten days ago, shortly after two white teenagers were acquitted of the most serious charges in the beating death of Luís Ramírez, a Mexican immigrant, several white students at the local high school told Felix Bermejo that he would be the next person to get a beating, he says.

“We have to walk very carefully in this town,” said Lupe Silva, in Shenandoah, Pa.

Ed Rolko, the owner of Mr. Edward’s Styling Salon, described the beating death of Luís Ramírez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, as a “street fight gone awry.”

Last Sunday, Eileen Burke, a former Philadelphia police officer who found Mr. Ramírez unconscious on the ground outside her Lloyd Street home after he was beaten, found that her car had been egged after she was quoted in a local newspaper saying she believed that the police had mishandled the investigation.

Last week, a fight broke out between a group of white teenagers and a group of black and Latino teenagers and someone pulled out a gun, an escalation that several onlookers said never would have happened before.

The trial stemming from Mr. Ramírez’s death ended nearly two weeks ago, but tensions continue to boil in this small Pennsylvania coal town of 5,100 northwest of Philadelphia, where Mexicans and other Latinos have been settling in search of affordable housing and work in the mines or apple and peach farms.

“It’s only gotten worse since the verdict,” said a white woman at a downtown store who asked that her name not be used because she was afraid of how her neighbors might react to her having talked to a reporter. “The whole thing has set us backwards, and if the trial had swung the other way, it would have just been the whites who were angry.”

Closure in the matter is not likely to come soon. A federal investigation of the crime and the police’s handling of it is under way. The case has also become something of a cause célèbre for national Hispanic organizations, including the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, or Maldef, which has begun a national petition calling for the Justice Department to bring federal hate crime charges against the assailants and has called for the Senate to pass legislation strengthening the federal hate crime law. Similar legislation was passed by the House last month.

“This case is not just about what happened to Luís; it’s about what Latinos nationally are facing,” said John Amaya, a staff lawyer with Maldef, who added that Mr. Ramírez’s death was part of a larger trend of violence against Latinos. He pointed to federal crime statistics that show a 40 percent increase in attacks on Hispanics from 2003 to 2007.

"We are so close in our DNA that if you were a visitor from another planet analyzing DNA samples of earth species, you would assume that there were greater differences between chimpanzees and gorillas than between chimpanzees and humans," said Ajit Varki, M.D., Professor of Medicine with the UCSD Cancer Center and Divisions of Hematology-Oncology and Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Varki is senior author of two new papers describing a genetic mutation at the root of a structural difference between an important cell surface molecule common in humans and chimpanzees.

In a paper published in the September 28 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Varki and a team of researchers from UCSD, the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the Living Links Center of the Yerkes Primate Center, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at Emory University, and Baylor College of Medicine describe a missing enzymatic action resulting from a mutated gene in humans that is the basis for the lack of a single oxygen atom in an otherwise identical sialic acid molecule.

"It has been known for a while that the DNA code of humans and chimpanzees is very similar," said Varki. "Thus, the obvious differences in physical appearance and functional abilities are likely to be explained by relatively few differences in the underlying genetic code. We have found what appears to be the first known major biochemical and genetic difference between humans and chimpanzees. For various reasons, the finding is an intriguing one, but further work is needed to determine its precise significance."

Sialic acids are a type of sugar molecule found on cell surfaces. These molecules play an important role in cell-to-cell communication, serving as binding sites for receptors on other cells in the body, and for a number of pathogens, including those that cause cholera, influenza and malaria.

These "glycans" are known to mediate or modulate many biological processes including sub-cellular and cellular trafficking, intercellular adhesion, signaling, and microbial attachment. Much data also indicates their involvement in embryonic development, normal tissue organization, tumor metastasis, and in the interactions of cells with extra-cellular molecules. In recent years, improved technologies have permitted exploration of this new frontier of "Molecular Glycobiology."

The Varki lab (directed by Ajit and Nissi Varki) uses these new approaches, along with the traditional tools of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics and genomics to investigate selected areas of Glycobiology. The present focus is on the sialic acids, which are found at the outermost position on the glycan chains of all vertebrate cell surfaces and glycoproteins.

Currently active projects are relevant to the roles of sialic acids in Viral and Bacterial Infectivity, the Regulation of the Immune Response, the Initiation and Progression of Tumors and Unique Aspects of Human Evolution. We are particularly intrigued to find multiple differences in sialic acid biology between humans and our closest evolutionary cousins, the great apes.

These differences are a signature of the multiple cellular and molecular events that occurred during the last few million years of human evolution, and are relevant to understanding several aspects of the current human condition, both in health and disease.

Ajit Varki is Co-Director of the newly established UCSD / Salk Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny, multidisciplinary approach to understanding human origins, which involves scientists from across San Diego and all over the world. DNA Boosts Herodotus’ Account of Etruscans as Migrants to Italy

Geneticists have added an edge to a 2,500-year-old debate over the origin of the Etruscans, a people whose brilliant and mysterious civilization dominated northwestern Italy for centuries until the rise of the Roman republic in 510 B.C. Several new findings support a view held by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus — but unpopular among archaeologists — that the Etruscans originally migrated to Italy from the Near East.

An even more specific link to the Near East is a short statement by Herodotus that the Etruscans emigrated from Lydia, a region on the eastern coast of ancient Turkey. After an 18-year famine in Lydia, Herodotus reports, the king dispatched half the population to look for a better life elsewhere. Under the leadership of his son Tyrrhenus, the emigrating Lydians built ships, loaded all the stores they needed, and sailed from Smyrna (now the Turkish port of Izmir) until reaching Umbria in Italy.

What has brought Italian geneticists into the discussion are new abilities to sequence DNA and trace people’s origins. In 2004, a team led by Guido Barbujani at the University of Ferrara extracted mitochondrial DNA from 30 individuals buried in Etruscan sites throughout Italy. Their goal was to see whether Etruscans’ DNA was more like that of modern Italians or of people from the Near East.

With the geneticists in disarray, archaeologists had been able to dismiss their results. But a new set of genetic studies being reported seems likely to lend greater credence to Herodotus’ long-disputed account.

Etruscan Heritage Three new and independent sources of genetic data all point to the conclusion that Etruscan culture was imported to Italy from somewhere in the Near East.

One study is based on the mitochondrial DNA of residents of Murlo, a small former Etruscan town in an out-of-the-way place whose population may not have changed all that much since Etruscan times.

Mitchondrial DNA holds clues to geographical origins, because local mutations produced traceable lineages as people spread from the ancestral homeland of modern humans in northeastern Africa. Some lineages are found only in Africa, some in Europe and others in Asia.

The Murlo residents’ lineages are quite different from those of people in other Italian towns. When placed on a chart of mitochondrial lineages from Europe and the Near East, the people of Murlo map closest to Palestinians and Syrians, a team led by Dr. Torroni and Alessandro Achilli reports in the April issue of The American Journal of Human Genetics.

In Tuscany as a whole, part of the ancient Etruscan region of Etruria, the Torroni team found 11 minor mitochondrial DNA lineages that occur nowhere else in Europe and are shared only with Near Eastern people. These findings, the teams says, “support a direct and rather recent genetic input from the Near East, a scenario in agreement with the Lydian origin of the Etruscans.”

Dr. Torroni said he had data awaiting publication that are based on Y chromosomes and point to the same conclusion.

A third source of genetic data on Etruscan origins has been developed by Marco Pellecchia and Paolo Ajmone-Marsan at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Piacenza. Tuscany has four ancient unusual breeds of cattle, including the giant Chianina. Analyzing the mitochondrial DNA of these and seven other breeds of Italian cattle, Dr. Ajmone-Marsan found that the Tuscan breeds genetically resembled cattle of the Near East, whereas the other Italian breeds grouped with cattle of northern Europe.

The only archaeological evidence for an invasion of the Basque Country dates to some 40,000 years ago when Cro-Magnon people first arrived in Europe and superseded Homo neanderthalensis. Another possibility is that a precursor of the Basque language may have arrived with the advance of agriculture, some 6,000 years ago.

DNA methods for seeking ancient ancestry are increasingly being used to test the origins of the Basques. An interesting possibility is that Parkinson's disease may be related to the Basque dardarin mutation. Partly as a result of DNA analysis, "...there is a general scientific consensus that the Basques represent the most direct descendants of the hunter-gatherers who dwelt in Europe before the spread of agriculture, based on both linguistic and genetic evidence..." This would make them the descendants of some of the earliest human inhabitants of Europe.

The Basque genetic markers also reveal a very strong relationship with the Celtic peoples of Ireland, Wales and Cornwall. The shared markers are suggestive of having passed through a genetic bottleneck during the peak of the last ice age, which would mean the two peoples were in Europe by at least about 17,000 years ago, and probably 45,000 to 50,000 years ago. Despite the genetic connection, there is little reason to suppose that the Celtic languages are related to Basque. It is rather probable that British people related to the Iberian population switched to Celtic with La Tène culture migrations, but we can only speculate on whether these ancient peoples were using a language related to Basque or some other language.

Some authors also believe that the Basque language provides evidence for a Stone Age origin: the words for knife and axe may come from the root word for stone,[8] suggesting that the language developed when knives and axes were made of stone rather than bronze or iron (although the undisputed fact that the Basque language may be as old as that does not prove that the tribes and people that preserved it are). Mitochondrial DNA analysis tracing a rare subgroup of haplogroup U8 places the ancestry of the Basques in the Upper Palaeolithic, with their primitive founders originating from West Asia.

Reasons for survival

Regardless of which theories are correct, it is quite possible that the Basques arrived before the Celts and likely that they are the oldest continuously surviving people inhabiting a particular location in Europe. It is believed that they have lived in or near their present location for at least four thousand years, a relatively small group of people surviving when many others were overwhelmed by invaders. A number of early Basque writers sought to explain this — in keeping with the academic fashion of their time, typically through speculation about racial superiority — but the endurance of the Basques can also be explained by good fortune: they happened to be in the right place over and over again.

Whether the Basques chose their easily defended home in the Pyrenees or were forced into it at some time in the past, it is common for mountainous regions, as with islands, to remain as bastions of an otherwise vanished culture or people. Because of this, the Basque homeland is well suited to survival. Its low mountains are combined with dense forests and vegetation which make it impassable to outsiders en masse, but still temperate enough to support a large agricultural base—one where the soil is poorer than the surrounding plains, leaving the area a much less tempting target for invaders. Furthermore, the Basque areas have few reserves of precious metals, especially in comparison to the gold reserves to the west in Spain or to the rich agricultural lands in Gascony just to the north. The Basques seem to have ended up in the best locale on the European continent for uninterrupted survival.

It is said that Proto IndoEuropeans expanded from an area close to the Caspian Sea in the Southern steppes of Russia. The Images show the expansion from 4,000 BC to 1,000 BC.

The depiction of the Kurgans as IndoEuropeans Warriors in Chariots could be not 100% true. Were they priests ??? .... Wizards or Magicians ?? ... Was it a cultural or religious conquest ?? .... Did Agriculture play a part ?? ... Were they little hordes not able to influence the genetics of the "conquered" populations ??

It now appears that the police, the district attorney and the judge were all complicit in the sham trial in which two racist hoodlums were cleared of all serious charges by an all White jury in the brutal racially motivated killing of Mexican immigrant Luis Ramirez.

The video below shows an interview of one of the most important witnesses to the racially motivated killing which the prosecution, by design, failed to call to the Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania trial. The witness is former Philadelphia police officer Eileen Burke who witnessed and heard the killers yelling racial epithets at Luis Ramirez while beating and kicking him to death.

Eileen Burke also makes some incriminating statements concerning Shenandoah cop Jason Hayes who according to court testimony is the "lover" of bar maid Tammy Piekarsky. Tammy Piekarsky is the mother of killer Brandon Piekarsky whose deed the all White jury decided was only a "simple misdemeanor."
