Mets, Yanks urged to boycott 2011 All-Star Game by NY political party
Some excerpts :
In a letter to the party’s 130,000 supporters, WFP Executive Director Dan Cantor wrote:
“Will Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera have to show ID to take the mound next year?
........................
If Mets or Yankees players attend the All-Star Game, they could be subjected to the same suspicion, profiling, and harassment now threatening thousands of Arizonans — both immigrants and citizens. But if New York’s baseball teams say they won’t go, they could become leaders in a national push to move the All-Star Game out of Arizona unless this law is repealed.”
Cantor goes on to say:
“Jackie Robinson and the Dodgers made civil rights history right here in Brooklyn. It’s time the Yankees and Mets live up to that legacy by forcing MLB to move the All-Star game out of Arizona.”

A friend Briant T. wrote this to me about Mariano Rivera :
ReplyDelete"Interesting I'm sure they will harass Rivera and other Latino ball players if this law ever goes in to effect.
I have soooo much respect for Mariano Rivera even though I'm a Chicago fan, he really closes the door and seals the win.
Rivera was signed by the Yankees organization in 1990, and he debuted in the Major Leagues in 1995 as a starting pitcher. He found success after converting to a relief pitcher in the bullpen. After a breakthrough season in 1996 as a setup man, he became the Yankees' closer in 1997 and has maintained that role for the team ever since. Rivera has become regarded as one of the best closers in baseball history and he has achieved his success by primarily throwing one pitch, a sharp-breaking, mid-90s mile per hour cut fastball that has been called an all-time great pitch. Much like Bob Gibson's fastball or Sandy Koufax's curve. (Although Koufax did have a blazing fast ball to match and Gidson had a heck of a slider too.)
Rivera is a ten-time All-Star, a five-time American League (AL) Rolaids Relief Man Award winner, and a three-time saves leader. He has recorded the second-most saves in Major League history, and in 2009, he surpassed 500 career saves. Recognized as an exceptional postseason performer,[he holds Major League postseason records for saves and earned run average (ERA), among other records.Baseball writers expect Rivera will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame upon retirement."
