Scores of people have gathered in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Monday to denounce a U.S. church's plan to burn the Islamic holy book the Quran. The crowd in Kabul, numbering as many as 500, chanted "Long live Islam" and "Death to America" as they listened to fiery speeches from members of parliament, provincial council deputies, and Islamic clerics who criticised the US and demanded the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
Pastor Terry Jones, of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, a non-denominational Christian church, said he planned to burn the Quran on Saturday, 11 September, to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Where the hell is the Republican Party when it comes to 'Burn A Koran Day'? Why hasn't every Republican member of Congress issued a news release condemning this pastor? The party that says that they will do whatever it takes to keep America safe is ignoring General Petraeus' warning that burning the Koran will put soldiers at risk. Finally today Republican John Boehner condemned Pastor Jones, but it's pathetic that he's the only voice of reason from this party.
