Court dismisses cases against 17 UUs, finds three others not guilty for SB 1070 protests.

Cases dismissed for many Phoenix protesters

Some excerpts :

A court has dismissed most of the charges against Unitarian Universalists who were arrested while protesting Arizona's anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070 in July 2010.

Some 30 to 35 Unitarian Universalists were arrested in Phoenix, Ariz., July 29, 2010, in a nonviolent religious witness against SB 1070. On January 20, the Phoenix Municipal Court dismissed cases against 17 of the 20 UUs who were scheduled to appear in court in January, and found three others not guilty. Other cases are pending in Maricopa County Justice Court against Unitarian Universalist Association President Peter Morales and Margy Angle and the Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray of the UU Congregation of Phoenix in the next several months.

Most of the cases thus far have involved charges of obstructing a public thoroughfare, for blocking the street outside the office of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in downtown Phoenix. The rest of the cases to come, including those of Angle, Frederick-Gray, and Morales, are for people who were arrested while blocking a county jail entrance at the same time as the street protest.

In addition to the UUs arrested on July 29, more than 50 other people were also arrested that day. Many were members of Puente Arizona and other immigrant rights groups. Sun Principe, the social justice director at the UU Congregation of Phoenix, said that many of their cases were also being dismissed or they were being found not guilty. In some cases they had the same lawyers as the UUs.

“We’re helping all the ones that we know about from those groups,” said Principe. The Phoenix congregation created a legal defense fund last summer, and it is being used to pay some of the fines, travel expenses, and legal fees for those arrested.

One of the lawyers for those arrested, Sunita Patel, applauded the dismissal of the cases. She wrote in an email, “For centuries, democracy has included peaceful protest and civil disobedience. The July actions in Phoenix, Arizona, were part of this long history of telling power to change unjust laws. The dismissals of the Unitarian Universalists and other advocates is a triumph for justice.”

People With Low Self-Esteem Show More Signs of Prejudice

Some excerpts :

When people are feeling badly about themselves, they’re more likely to show bias against people who are different. A new study published in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association for Psychological Science, examines how that works.

“This is one of the oldest accounts of why people stereotype and have prejudice: It makes us feel better about ourselves,” says Jeffrey Sherman of the University of California, Davis, who wrote the study with Thomas Allen. “When we feel bad about ourselves, we can denigrate other people, and that makes us feel better about ourselves.”
................

But what psychologists don’t agree on is how this works. “People were using the exact same data to make completely different arguments about why,” Sherman says. There are two possibilities: either feeling bad about yourself activates negative evaluations of others, or it makes you less likely to suppress those biases.
.........................

By plugging in the data from the experiment, they were able to determine that people who feel bad about themselves show enhanced prejudice because negative associations are activated to a greater degree, but not because they are less likely to suppress those feelings.

The difference is subtle, but important, Sherman says. “If the problem was that people were having trouble inhibiting bias, you might try to train people to exert better control,” he says. But his results suggest that’s not the issue. “The issue is that our mind wanders to more negative aspects of other groups. The way around that is to try and think differently about other people. When you feel bad about yourself and catch yourself thinking negatively about other groups, remind yourself, ‘I may be feeling this way because I just failed a test or something.’

Fox News only reports the murders or violent cases that incite to more Racism and Hatred. They blatantly ignore everything that does not conform to their stupid World View ( Weltanschaung ) of bigotry and prejudice

.
Imagine the poor "World View" of Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck with its "caliphate" at the Biblical End of Times and his lessons from the Book or Revelation.

Imagine the Intelligence of Sean Hannity that blames American Presidents and Prominent People of the White House for the disaster of Vietnam. According to Sean Hannity, America lost the Vietnam War for a lack of balls.

Sean Hannity also says that Iraq should pay billions of dollars to America for its "Liberation". And his defense of Tortures and Water Boarding.

Have you seen the utter stupidity of Bill O'Reilly or the Jingoism, Militarism and Fanaticism of Charles Krauthammer in Fox News ??

Well, everything that does not conform to that "World View" is ignored.

Example : The Murders of Black People for Racial Reasons ( Racism ) and the murders of Gays as Hate Crimes are totally ignored in Fox News.

Example : the murder of little Brisenia Flores and her father Raul in Arizona by the Minutemen in May 2009.

Example : the murder Luis Ramirez in Shenandoah Pennsylvania in July 2008, the posterior absolution of the criminals in a biased racist court, the Police Conspiracy to hide the truth and the later intervention of the Justice Department. This murder was cowardly committed by a team of "Football Players" and was a Hate Crime of Racist Inspiration.

Example : the murder of Marcelo Lucero in Patchogue, Long Island, New York in November 2008 and the trial of a coward bunch of racist murderers, a gang of thugs.

And I do not want to mention the millions of informations about Budgets, Economy, Wars, International Developments, etc ... that are biased in Fox News.

They only inform what incites to more crimes and hatred, or to more Wars and further profits for the Military Industrial Complex that helps and announces in Fox News.

Nostalgic covers for the Saturday Evening Post magazine : If Norman Rockwell was still around to capture those all-American moments, then he would need more brown in his palette, at least to paint kindergarden children - Hot new color is brown according to Census 2010.

Fox News Geraldo Rivera asks all people, specially Minorities to register to vote and to put a watch on gerrymandering, that is redistricting with cunning and "bad faith". There are new cohorts of Millennials and people just arriving to the age of 18, it is necessary that they register to vote, and they are not as white as milk.

Opinion: La Calle Sesame

Some excerpts :

But if Norman Rockwell was still around to capture those all-American moments, his painter’s palette would be much different than it was during the roaring-20’s when he painted those instantly nostalgic covers for the Saturday Evening Post magazine. The nation is much darker than it was, and the hot new color is brown.

Analyzing the first results from the once-every-decade, 2010 edition of the U.S. Census, the four million five-year olds entering kindergarten will include many more minority students than at any time in our nation’s history, (48.3%). While black, Asian and Native American kids are all part of the definition of “minority” for Census purposes, most of those new kindergarteners will be Hispanic. Come September, and that awe and panic-inducing first day of school, one in every four American kindergarteners will be Latino; one in four.

Young Latinos is by far the fastest growing ethnic/racial group in the country. Its explosive growth will eventually re-make America from the classroom to the Congress. And the demographic tsunami it represents is unprecedented in U.S. history; surpassing the huge Irish wave that re-made the east coast from Savannah to Boston in the 1850’s. And those little Latinitos will be everywhere in the United States. In New York, where Sol will be going to school, and in New Jersey, California, New Mexico, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas, the dramatic growth of the Hispanic population is perhaps unsurprising. But the browning of America is affecting states as far-flung as Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Idaho, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Oregon, Maryland, Illinois, North Carolina, Arkansas, the Dakotas and Virginia.
...............

Given the number and relative fertility of Hispanics entering childbearing age, the phenomena I describe is both incontrovertible and unstoppable. The Latino effect that impacts first in September’s kindergarten class will come to infuse every other aspect of American life. From retailing to entertainment to the Armed Services, Latinos will be increasingly prominent. And wait until states start re-shaping congressional districts based on the results of the 2010 Census as they are required by law to do. Since most population gains came from an influx of Hispanics, there can be no doubt that our electoral strength will continue to grow.

In the meantime, our job in media, law, politics and community is to monitor closely the congressional reapportionment process to insure there are no backroom, unlawful attempts to dilute the Latino vote by gerrymandering. We must also make it our sacred duty to urge everyone 18 or over to register and vote because that is the only way we can reliably have a voice in shaping our own destiny. And in September when we walk our nervous little ones into their first day of kindergarten, we are honor-bound to support them in every way we can because education is power.

And many fools aroused by clowns like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck, these "pundits" should work as clowns in "Le cirque du soleil" or perhaps in a madhouse after their conspiracy theories.

*******

How can Obama Fans persuade people to vote for Obama 2012 ??

Obama Fans should persuade any person that seems serious but a little out of touch with Political Realities : Family, Friends, even acquaintances.

Youngsters and Working Women are excellent candidates to vote for Obama, also people with excellent education and illustration from the best colleges. If the Woman is Young and Unmarried then the probabilities that you bat a hit or a "home run" increase tenfold.

Old People and Evangelicals are a little harder but not impossible - I think that the Christian Gospels do not say that we should be tough and hard to Workers, the Poor, Minorities, the Unions, "The Other", "The Otherness", etc ...

Be patient with Latinos or Hispanics, even if they do not understand you because of a Language barrier. If they can not vote for any reason then they can be the conducting thread to other voters.

One poor Old Black Guy that had never voted in his life was helped to register by Democratic Party canvassers, and he helped them to persuade more than twenty people in a single day. The matter was that he never was approached in his life by Political Activity of this Personal Kind and Kindness.

Latinos gave Obama four 2008 swing states ( now they have 46 electors ) : Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and New Mexico. If Obama holds all four states in 2012, he can afford to lose North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia from his 2008 coalition and still win re-election so long as he carries every state both he and John Kerry did

.
The "Texas Insider" seems to analyze that Latinos are kingmakers for 2012 :

In fact, thanks to added electors in the Southwestern states, if Obama wins these four pivotal latino swing states ( Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and New Mexico ) then he can squeak by with 272 electors even if he loses Florida too.

As the white share of the electorate shrinks, the share of the Latino vote Republicans need to remain competitive will gradually inch higher. In those states with significant population of Latinos and Blacks, Republicans need a higher proportion of Latino support to win the electoral votes of such a state.

The Latino Threshold: Where the GOP Needs Latino Votes and Why

Some excerpts :

Latino support was critical for Obama in four 2008 swing states he won that will now have a combined 46 electors: Colorado, Florida, Nevada, and New Mexico. As Latino Decisions’ Matt Barreto points out, if Obama holds all four states in 2012, he can afford to lose North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia from his 2008 coalition and still win re-election so long as he carries every state both he and John Kerry did. In fact, thanks to added electors in the Southwestern states, Obama can squeak by with 272 electors even if he loses Florida too.

No doubt aware of Latinos as his potential electoral backstop, Obama appointed Sonia Sotomayor to become the first Latina Supreme Court justice.

Is Obama’s Latino support holding steady?

On Monday, impreMedia and Latino Decisions released a new survey showing a strangely bifurcated answer to this question: Although 70 percent of Latinos approve of Obama’s performance as president, only 43 percent say they will for certain vote for him in 2012. Of the poll results, impreMedia pollster Pilar Marrero writes that “doubts about the president and the Democrats are not turning into support for the Republicans.”

To win re-election, President Obama must close the sale again with Latinos during the next two years. But if recent numbers from Public Policy Polling in key swing states are any indication, at least in potential head-to-head matchups against Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich and (most especially) Sarah Palin, Obama is in as good a shape if not better in all four of Latino-pivotal swing states.

Spotlight would burn Arizona again

Some excerpts :

What's more, Arizona could wind up alone in the glare of negative publicity. As the sole Republican on the committee to vote against the birthright challenge, Mesa's Sen. Rich Crandall voiced his doubts that other states would follow through on promises to enact similar measures.

In testifying against the birthright measures, Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Glenn Hamer told the committee that last year's controversy over Senate Bill 1070 made the state less attractive to those who plan conventions.

"This will put Arizona through another trial and hurt innocent business people who are just trying to get ahead," he said.
............................

The aim is to make the state so unfriendly to undocumented immigrants that they leave. But many of these people - and it is important to remember that they are people - will stay. They will hunker down and become more vulnerable and less likely to report crimes. Some will be too fearful to send their children to school - even if those children are U.S. citizens.
...................

We hope that on further deliberation, Arizona's lawmakers will move beyond the frustration, reject these and other punitive immigration bills and direct their energy at Congress, which has the authority and the duty to fix this mess.

The immigration bills moving through the Legislature will not solve Arizona's border problems. They will create more misery for Arizona.

Detain White speeders in pick-up trucks, those sporting baseball caps, or playing country music in the car. Require local police to check that everyone they come in contact with had filed current income tax returns and paid any taxes owed to the government - Farmers are the Greatest Tax Cheaters - Better than a crackdown on "Illegals"

.
This is Ridiculous and Absurd but it contains a powerful Truth.

Jan Brewer, Russell Pearce and the racists in Arizona say that they are persecuting the "Illegal Aliens" in order to improve the finances of Arizona, but if that is their objective then a crackdown on farmers by local police is a better idea. Those guys drive pick-up trucks and you can "Racially Profile" the farmers by many clues like baseball caps and country music.

The Internal Revenue Service estimates the federal government alone loses about $350 billion a year from American tax cheats. And, according to the IRS, farmers are most likely to cheat on their taxes by under reporting farm income.

EDITORIAL: Let good sense drive immigration reform bills

Some Excerpts :

The Arizona law is wrongheaded for a variety of reasons, chief among them is that it would absolutely allow, and in most cases, require police to treat Arizona Hispanic residents differently and poorly in the zeal to round up illegal immigrants and ship them out of the country.

The law also requires local police and sheriff agencies to become de facto immigration officers, further taxing what have become already overburdened police departments.

It’s little different than if state lawmakers required local police to check that everyone they come in contact with had filed current income tax returns and paid any taxes owed to the government. For those who don’t file or don’t pay, it’s off to the pokey to prove you filed that extension or the check really is in the mail.

If you think tax fraud isn’t as pressing an issue as is illegal immigration, think again. The Internal Revenue Service estimates the federal government alone loses about $350 billion a year from American tax cheats. It’s a huge problem, one that would pay U.S. citizens well to have local police step in and work to fill the till, so to speak. And, according to the IRS, farmers are most likely to cheat on their taxes by under reporting farm income. So if Arizona lawmakers were to write a law hoping to help Uncle Sam reduce the federal deficit, they would instruct local police to look most closely at white speeders in pick-up trucks, those sporting baseball caps, or playing country music in the car. The whole notion is ludicrous, and so is setting police out to round up illegal aliens.

Instead, state lawmakers should look at real solutions. By improving and encouraging the use of E-Verify employment checks, Colorado businesses can help reduce the one thing that lures so many undocumented workers to Colorado: easy-to-get jobs. But the system must be easy and risk free for businesses, and that’s something state lawmakers can work on. While the only thing that will truly solve the problem is a comprehensive measure on the federal level, one that recognizes the need for immigrant labor, grandstanding on Arizona-like laws will only serve to further muddle the problem.

Forde gets death sentence in killing of girl, dad

Some excerpts :

A Washington state resident who once bragged she was going to take her Minutemen group to the “next level” was sentenced to death Tuesday for plotting a deadly home invasion that took the life of a 9-year-old Arivaca girl and her father.

A Pima County jury deliberated four hours over two days before deciding Shawna Forde, 43, should join the other two women on Arizona’s death row.

Forde, 43, was convicted Feb. 14 of first-degree murder in the May 30, 2009, deaths of Raul Junior Flores, 29, and Brisenia Flores, 9, and of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of Gina Gonzalez, Flores’ wife and Brisenia’s mother.

Jurors were told Forde needed money for her border protection group, Minutemen American Defense, and decided to rob drug smugglers near the border.

Gonzalez testified her husband opened the door of their home to a man and a woman claiming to be law enforcement officers looking for fugitives.

The man opened fire on the couple when Junior Flores questioned their story and their daughter was shot at point-blank range while pleading for her life, Gonzalez told jurors.

A handful of inexpensive jewelry was later found in Forde’s possession.

Arizonans highlight economic cost of tough immigration law

Some excerpts :

SALT LAKE CITY — A spokesman for an Arizona business group opposed to enforcement-only immigration laws said Thursday that they are costing his state hundreds of millions of dollars.

Arizona is set to lose $490 million in tourism revenue this year, including $141 million in lost spending due to conferences canceled in protest of the measures, Todd Landfried said at a Hinckley Institute of Politics forum discussion at the University of Utah.

Todd Landfried and Lydia Guzman from Arizona answer questions about the problems their state has had following the passage of SB1070, during a meeting at the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011.

Landfried, a consultant and spokesman for Arizona Employers for Immigration Reform, said the state would lose almost 3,000 tourism jobs, while a major Chinese manufacturing company has moved its operations to Texas.

"That's a lot of jobs," he said. "The impact to all this stuff really is devastating."

Boycotts and dropped contracts have damaged Arizona's economy since the passage of SB1070 last year, Landfried said. Since farmers in the Yuma area have lost up to 60 percent of this winter's lettuce crop without enough workers in the fields, he added, the price of a carton of lettuce has almost doubled to more than $21.

"That's going to hit every one of you," he said.

Meanwhile, Arizona is racking up legal bills to defend the constitutionality of the law, which has already had provisions thrown out by a judge.

Arab uprisings mark a turning point for the taking

Arab uprisings mark a turning point for the taking

Some excerpts :

As one Egyptian protester put it, very concisely: "I used to watch television, now television watches me." On the other side of the world, the tens of thousands of protesters who are mobilising to protect their unions in Wisconsin are among the many millions who have been watching and learning, and who see some similarities between their state governor and Egypt's deposed president. In the UK, students and workers gearing up for another round of direct confrontation with Cameron's government have been watching, too.

Diplomats and pundits rush to assure us that what we're really seeing in north Africa is just an oriental variation on the east European uprisings of 1989, or the subsequent "colour revolutions" – uprisings that served mainly to consolidate rather than challenge the global status quo. Of course, no one can say how the north African mobilisations will develop, or how far they will spread. Like earlier revolutions in France, Haiti and Russia, these are mobilisations whose spatial and temporal (let alone ethnic or religious) dimensions are quite emphatically not fixed in advance. But we do know that they have already changed the course of history, and that they will continue to change it. In each new confrontation, they have demonstrated anew the truth of an old conviction that will always be more powerful than any amount of violent repression or scornful dismissal: the people, united, will never be defeated.

Whatever happens next, the people of north Africa and the Middle East have already won victories that will never be erased. The clashes in Tunis on 11-12 January, the capitulation of riot police in Cairo and Alexandria on 28 January, the retaking of Manama's Pearl Square on 19 February, the liberation of Benghazi on 20 February – in the annals of revolutionary history, events of the 2011 Arab spring may one day invite comparison more readily with the summer of 1789 or the autumn of 1917 than with the winter of 1989.

In each case, what's been at stake first and foremost is less a specific demand for objective change than a subjective process of self-empowerment. Every revolutionary sequence applies in practice a principle that every counter-revolutionary theory seeks to deny or disguise: there is indeed no deeper source of legitimacy than the active will of the people. A revolutionary sequence is one in which those people who set out to transform their situation find a way to clarify and mobilise the will of its people as a whole. Where it exists, the will of the people is sustained through the practice of those who compose and impose it in the collective interest – and who thereby invariably risk, at the hands of those few who oppose this interest, misrepresentation as criminals or outsiders.

As the philosopher Alain Badiou points out in a recent editorial, "once they cross a certain threshold of determination, persistence and courage, the people can indeed concentrate their existence in a public square or avenue, in a few factories, or in a university. In the wake of a transformative event, the people are composed of those who are able to resolve the problems posed by this event" – for instance, the problems involved in defending a square, or sustaining a strike, or confronting an army. Buoyed by the assertion of their hard-won power, the people of north Africa and the Middle East are currently inventing means of solving such problems at a rate that already defies any sort of historical comparison at all. Their priority now is clearly to consolidate and organise this power in the face of the many new and more daunting problems they will soon have to confront.

Needless to say, the struggle to come will again play out in different ways in different places. The consequences of even the most resounding victory are always uncertain, and it may take a long time for those of us who live in the more sheltered parts of the world to learn our own lessons from north Africa's example. The old neoliberal assault remains set to continue. Now everyone knows, however, that it will only prevail if we allow it to.

If a republican candidate suddenly lost all of his money and fortune and was left homeless, he would start voting for the morally correct liberal agenda. Tea Party Candidates widen the income gap and make sure their firm aristocracy remains above the needs of the common man. Kool-Aid Politics for the Fools

.
That is what the Governor of Wisconsin wants to do, to project the image of a new "Ronald Reagan" that punishes the bums, freeholders and parasites and reduces them almost to joblessness or poverty. That way he wins the votes of all the Tea Party Bigots and Extremists.

Republican candidates are always hiding their true intentions, which is becoming richer while the others remain poor and become poorer with the Republican agenda. These Tea Party candidates start by being financed by the Wealthiest.

It is so simple, Republicans speak of "Enslaved to welfare", but welfare is supposed to help people if they don't get enough income to support their families. And it has many controls that can be improved every day.

This is the pathetic facade for their true "Republican or Tea Party" intentions, widening the income gap and making sure that Minorities, the Poor and even the White Middle Class and the "common man" stay as underdogs and subjected fools.

That is the reason why this is called "Kool-Aid" ---- Kool-Aid is a brand of flavored drink mix owned by the Kraft Foods Company, and manufactured by its Mexican subsidiary.

Drinking the Kool-Aid refers to the 1978 Jonestown Massacre; the phrase suggests that one has mindlessly adopted the dogma of a group or leader without fully understanding the ramifications or implications: at Jonestown, Jim Jones's followers followed him to the end: after visiting Congressman Leo Ryan was shot at the airstrip, all the Peoples Temple members drank from a metal vat containing a mixture of "Kool Aid", Cyanide, and prescription drugs Valium, Phenergan, and chloral hydrate. The poison at Jonestown, however, was mixed not with Kool-Aid but a similar product, Flavor Aid.

Kool-Aid Politics is what people drank with Ronald Reagan and with the anti-Obama Tea Party of electoral year 2010.

That is why so many non-Rich and non-Wealthy people vote against their own economic interests.

David Pakman speaks so excellent English because he was born in Buenos Aires Argentina and is Jewish, Ukranian and Polish. David has to be somewhat Liberal - Isn't he a Jew, and a "Dirty Mexican" at the same time ??

The Greatest Charm of David Pakman is that he speaks very clearly, softly, slowly the most Excellent English that even the "Dirty Mexicans" can understand. And also David will never never never become a Rush Limbaugh, a Glenn Beck or someone like Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly.

David is so human and kind in all his opinions ! ... and he has the charm of Youth for Ladies, something that sick, old and bald Rush Limbaugh would envy to death ...

Radio host becomes host of midweek politics

Some excerpts :

University of Massachusetts graduate David Pakman – youthful host and co-producer of the Northampton-based radio/TV/internet program “Midweek Politics With David Pakman” – is rapidly becoming a force in the American communications industry. His talk show focuses on politics and news of the week, with listener call-ins and interviews of liberal, conservative, and non-political guests ranging from Victor Ostrovsky, former Mossad case officer and Lieutenant Commander of the Israeli Navy, to gossip columnist Perez Hilton.

Since the show first aired on Valley Free Radio in 2005 – when Pakman was 21 – it has garnered rapid recognition and growth. Approximately 5.5 million people currently tune in to Midweek Politics on 33 radio stations and 26 television stations nationwide, as well as via YouTube and the Web.

Pakman was born in Buenos Aires; one side of his family had emigrated from the Ukraine to Argentina before World War I, and the other from Poland just before World War II. His family moved to Western Massachusetts when he was 5 when his father received a job offer here. After graduating from Northampton High School,

Pakman did his undergraduate work at UMass/Amherst in Economics and Communication, and subsequently received an MBA at Bentley University in Waltham.

Pakman is bilingual and speaks Spanish at home and with his family in Argentina.
(His mother teaches Spanish, Spanish Literature, and Judaic Studies at Smith College.)

He says that he received “a relatively secular Jewish upbringing, but I’ve always been highly involved with my Jewish background, socially and culturally; I’m part of a local Jewish group and I attend their events. It’s just generally how I identify.”

Pakman recently spoke with the Jewish Ledger about his life and profession.

Foreign Policy Mag : Stephen Walt : If Obama were a true friend of Israel, He would be doing efforts to keep Israel from expanding its ruinous occupation and help to prevent Israel from building new settlement in occupied land

.
Great Article of one of my most admired and preferred Professors and authors of Foreign Policy.

Let's face the problems : U. S. Foreign Policy is in total disarray and chaos, while the Arab Countries burn in revolts and revolutions and nobody knows the outcome or outcomes to follow in these nations.

Israel wants to continue the "Mubarakism" of supporting dictators and despots in the Arab World. - The Israeli Government considers the Arabs as an Inferior Race, unfit for Democracy and Freedoms. That is the best way to perpetuate the Israeli-Arab Conflict. Meanwhile Israel is an Apartheid Democracy or at best an Ethnocracy with a race of underdogs : The Palestinians in occupied lands.

And what is the United States doing ?? -- Vetoing a very mild, soft, innocuous, inoffensive resolution in the United Nations asking for Justice in favor of the dislodged and dispossessed Palestinians. The USA and Israel are strongly isolated in the United Nations.

The "Arrow of History" is pointing towards the end of NeoColonialism, and against the support of Domination by means of Arab Despots, "Mubarak" Dictators and Tortures.

But nobody seems to understand in Washington and in the Israeli Government that we are in a process of DeWesternization and DeWhitenization. This is of course the DeNeoColonization that we see everyday in Television.

These Arab Revolts and Revolutions are a Prism and Lenses, like a  light  spectroscope, we can see through them how stupid and imbecile U. S. Foreign Policy has been in the 21 century and in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan.

U.S. should cut waste in immigration budget

U.S. should cut waste in immigration budget

Some excerpts :

As the Obama administration and Congress battle on how to reduce the $1.6 trillion U.S. budget deficit, here’s a politically incorrect idea that could save billions of dollars — cut the waste in the government’s spending on immigration enforcement.

I know, I know, the mere idea of cutting immigration enforcement funds is anathema to most conservatives — and many other Americans — who think that the United States is being invaded by undocumented Latin American aliens who take away jobs, bring deadly diseases and often commit crimes.

But there is fat to be cut in immigration enforcement programs. There is growing evidence that the arrest and deportation of undocumented migrants along the U.S. border has become a big business for private detention companies, and that in many cases it hasn’t helped reduce the flow of undocumented migrants.

“Billions of dollars could be saved if government agencies better used the resources they have been allocated, and if Congress terminated wasteful or duplicative programs,” says a new study by the National Immigration Forum, a Washington, D.C., group advocating for a comprehensive immigration reform. Among the study’s conclusions:

• The U.S. government deported 197,000 immigrants with no criminal records last year, at a cost of $23,000 each, or $4.5 billion a year. Instead of deporting agricultural workers and other laborers that the U.S. labor market is requiring, the U.S. government should focus on deporting migrants who have committed violent crimes, it says.

• The U.S. government spends $7,500 for every apprehension on the southern border, a 500 percent increase from what it spent six years ago. Yet despite this huge spending increase, the number of border detentions has not changed much, it says.

• The U.S. government has been increasing its border patrol budget by an average of $300 million a year since 2005, despite a drop in the number of people crossing the border illegally. Simply stopping the border patrol budget increases would save hundreds of millions of dollars a year, it says.
............

Interestingly, growing numbers of undocumented immigrants are being held in prisons run by private detention companies, which have become a powerful lobbying group for large-scale detention of undocumented immigrants. Much like there is a U.S. “military-industrial complex,” there is an “immigration enforcement complex” that is influencing Washington’s immigration policies, critics say.

In an Oct. 28 report, National Public Radio journalist Laura Sullivan concluded after several months of researching campaign documents that the “private prison industry” helped drive Arizona’s anti-immigration laws. The NPR report cited the Corrections Corporation of America, the largest private prison company in the country, as a key player in promoting large-scale immigrant detention bills. CCA denied any wrongdoing.
....................

My opinion: If President Barack Obama and Congress are seriously considering drastic cuts in public spending — including funds for the FBI and other law enforcement agencies — they should definitely cut waste in immigration enforcement spending.

At the very least, they should have a serious discussion on whether it makes sense to spend $4.5 billion in deporting people who have not committed serious crimes and do jobs that Americans don’t want to do, while slashing funds for the FBI and other law enforcement agencies whose job is to put serious criminals behind bars.

The high price of intolerance

Some excerpts :

A recent report from the Center for American Progress spotlighted several communities that have passed anti-immigration legislation and are now waking up to the resultant financial realities.

Farmers Branch, Texas, is reported to owe $3.7 million in legal fees.

Fremont, Neb., raised property taxes in anticipation of $750,000 in legal expenses.

The town of Hazleton, Pa., has run up $2.8 million defending its anti-immigration ordinance. Merchants in the town's Latino business district reported drops in business of 20 to 50 percent.

And boycotts sparked by the S.B. 1070 law are believed to have cost Arizona upwards of $250 million, according to USA Today.

And though local governments around the country are spending millions defending their anti-immigrant causes in court, almost every judicial decision has been a loss -- a terrible return on investment.

In my opinion, the current atmosphere in Frederick has allowed certain folks to home in on Hispanic people -- regardless of whether they be undocumented, here legally, or even American citizens -- as convenient scapegoats to vent frustration over the state of the economy, government, Wall Street, unemployment and whatever personal grievances they may be experiencing at that moment.

Politicians are fanning this frustration into intolerance, anger and hate under the guise of legal rectitude. This anger is misdirected, whether it's aimed at undocumented residents of our city or, oftentimes, at those who have done no wrong but happen to be Hispanic.

For example, what justification exists for the Frederick County Public Schools to flush out undocumented students? Our public schools are paid for by the property taxes collected within the jurisdiction, so regardless of whether the undocumented student's parents own the property in which they live or pay rent, the parents have paid their fair share -- the same share as every other parent in the community -- toward their child's right to be educated.

The result is costly lawsuits and sharply divided communities. The economic and community backlash that can follow the enactment of these laws - The price of such legislation is quite high.

Requiring local police to enforce federal immigration laws has grave consequences because it is diverted from its normal work against criminals. The towns SPLC surveyed in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas and Nebraska, along with the entire state of Arizona, have spent millions of dollars defending these laws without success. To raise legal fees in a tight economy, some communities increased property taxes and cut personnel. Increased tension and violence in towns that had previously been peaceful, the report says.

‘Tahrirization' and the state of Israeli democracy

Some excerpts :

While U.S.-sponsored authoritarian regimes in Egypt and Tunisia slip out of America's geopolitical orbit and towards more open and democratic societies, Israel is moving in the opposite direction, as its politics veer to the extreme right and anti-Arab racism and intolerance for dissent increase steadily. Israel's foreign minister wants Palestinian citizens to swear loyalty to Israel as a Jewish state; rabbis on the government payroll call on Jews not to rent property to Palestinians; Israeli schoolteachers complain of rampant and virulent anti-Arab racism amongst their students; new laws to prevent Palestinians from living in so-called community villages are being approved. In short, rights in Israel are being reserved for Jews only.

Unsurprisingly, even for Israeli Jews, democratic freedoms are eroding at an alarming rate. Israeli human rights groups and left-leaning NGOs are under attack from right-wing activists and the most extreme, racist government in Israel's history. The Israeli Knesset will soon open an investigation into the funding of Israeli human rights groups, part of a wider campaign to suppress their work and prevent them from documenting Israeli human rights abuses. The political climate in Israel today resembles the Jim Crow South in the 1950s coupled with the McCarthyism of the time. Conscientious people are refusing to participate in these witch hunts.

Palestinians in Israel and the Occupied Territories suffer many of the same injustices as the peoples of totalitarian regimes and more: torture and abuse at the hands of a repressive state security apparatus; bombardment, white phosphorus, and assassination; systemic inequality, both racial and economic; lack of political freedoms; poverty -- in our case the result of deliberate Israeli government policies. And the same tear gas canisters, made in the U.S., are fired at demonstrators in Cairo, Tunis and the West Bank. Palestinian demonstrators in Israel are shot in the streets.

As Arab popular movements strive to establish democracy and Israeli officials move to constrain civil liberties, it is increasingly clear that calling Israel a democracy is a misnomer. At best, it is an ethnocracy, where only Jews enjoy the full rights and privileges of citizenship. Today, there is a de facto, virtual caste system within the territories that Israel controls, with Israel's Jewish settlers at the top and Muslim and Christian Palestinians in the Occupied Territories at the bottom. Increasingly, people around the world are recognizing this situation for what it is: apartheid. Former Israeli Prime Ministers Ehud Olmert and Ehud Barak have both warned of an apartheid future if the status quo is maintained, and pro-Israel columnist Thomas Friedman recently did the same.

Jewish American Journalist Thomas L. Friedman has been changing his mind on Invasions, Occupations, War, Israel and Arabs, American and Israeli Exceptionalism - New York Time : Article condemning Israel for despising the Arabs as unfit for Democracy and supporting Mubarak

.
Thomas Loren Friedman (born 1953) is an American journalist, columnist and author. He writes a twice-weekly column for The New York Times. He has written extensively on foreign affairs including global trade, the Middle East and environmental issues and has won the Pulitzer Prize three times.

He attended Hebrew school five days a week until his Bar Mitzvah.

He was assigned to Jerusalem from 1984 to 1988, where he served as the Times's Jerusalem Bureau Chief, and received a second Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the First Palestinian Intifada. Afterwards he wrote a book, From Beirut to Jerusalem, describing his experiences in the Middle East. He became a Great "Pundit" on the Arabs and the Middle East.

I do not doubt of the Intelligence and Culture of Friedman but he acted as a fool in relation to the Invasion of Iraq ( in the company of hundreds of millions of Fools ).

Thomas Friedman wrote a lot of Foolish Ideas about the need to invade Iraq, to bring "Democracy" to the Heart of the Arab World. But he later began to change positions as he saw the Mirage and the Disaster.

Now, Tom Friedman is a different man and he strongly doubts that God assigned Israel and America to rule the World. He has become more prudent in Foreign Policy.

Anyway this is a Honest and Decent man, a journalist and author of Courage, Bravery and Valor. I take off my hat before Tom ..... It is that I love being sarcastic, caustic and mordacious.

When intelligent people act as fools the fun is bigger.

Postcard From Cairo, Part 2

Some excerpts :

For anyone who spent time in Tahrir Square these last three weeks, one thing was very obvious: Israel was not part of this story at all. This was about Egypt and about the longing of Egyptians for the most basic human rights, which were described to me by opposition Egyptian newspaper editor Ibrahim Essa as “freedom, dignity and justice.’’ It doesn’t get any more primal than that. And when young Egyptians looked around the region and asked: Who is with us in this quest and who is not?, the two big countries they knew were against them were Israel and Saudi Arabia. Sad. The children of Egypt were having their liberation moment and the children of Israel decided to side with Pharaoh – right to the very end.

It is so ironic, because one of the signs that was hanging in Tahrir Square all this past week was: “If Mubarak is Pharaoh, we are all Moses.’’

I am more worried today about Israel’s future than I have ever been, because I think that at time of great change in this region – and we have just seen the beginnings of it – Israel today has the most out-of-touch, in-bred, unimaginative and cliché-driven cabinet it has ever had.

Rather than even listening to what the democracy youth in Tahrir Square were saying and then trying to digest what it meant, this Israeli government took two approaches during the last three weeks: Frantically calling the White House and telling the president he must not abandon Pharaoh – to the point where the White House was thoroughly disgusted with its Israeli interlocutors – and using the opportunity to score propaganda points: “Look at us! Look at us! We told you so! We are the only stable country in the region, because we are the only democracy.’’

Though Media has Ignored Brisenia Flores' Murder by Minutemen, Shawna Forde's Death Sentence will Force it to the Headlines!

Some excerpts :

To date, the mainstream media (MSM) has ignored 9 year old Brisenia Flores' Murder. Sure, an occasional story or two has made its way through. However, think of the coverage the MSM provided to:
1. Jon Benet Ramsey
2. Natalie Holloway
3. Caylee Anthony
Nancy Grace was relentless in her coverage of these stories, day after day, month after month, year after year. Where was Nancy Grace on this story? Where was Fox news? Where was the majority of the MSM?
Hiding! Hiding, afraid to print this hot, sizzling story. Think of the headlines: "Crazed Minutemen Murder 9 Year Old Mexican American Girl and her Dad!"

Remember the 911 call by Brisenia's brave mother, Gina? She lay shot on the ground, feigning death, waiting until the savage murderers slithered away. Brutally shot, she bravely called 911, hoping in vain she could save her family. During the 911 call, the cowardly gunman returned, not expecting brave Gina to defend her family and shoot back. This, ALL caught on the 911 call recording. Where was the MSM?

The evil perpetrators, these Minutemen leaders, caught on the property of their comrades by the FBI, pictures and video all available. Where was the MSM? The perps were caught. Their connections identified. Where was the MSM?

Even now, throughout the trial, the blame is clear! The jury was quick to convict. The death sentence looming. Where is the MSM?

They were QUICK to jump on false stories. Remember Deputy Louie Puroll's fake shooting? Puroll FIRED by Sheriff Babeu for LYING? Remember Rancher Krentz's murder? No one even knows who shot him. Yet the MSM was everywhere for these stories! Quick to jump on the ANTI Bandwagon blaming the faceless "Illeegals" for these crimes and allowing this excuse to be used in pushing forward Arizona's sb1070 racial profiling bill.

Immigration bill had too many problems, lawmaker decided

‘Arizona’ bill to get ax in Colorado

Some excerpts :

DENVER – A Republican lawmaker’s Arizona-style immigration bill has been stopped at the border.

The bill’s sponsor said he will kill the bill this morning, before it even has a first hearing.

Rep. Randy Baumgardner, R-Hot Sulphur Springs, said his Colorado House Bill 1107 had too many problems to continue.

“After many drafts and hours of deliberation and meetings with entities, we had come to some agreement with agencies out there,” Baumgardner said. “(But) we couldn’t seem to get away from some parts of it that could be possibly unconstitutional.”

Baumgardner’s bill was patterned closely on a controversial Arizona law. Some parts of the Colorado bill were taken word for word from Arizona’s, while other parts were unique.

Both bills told police to contact anyone they suspected of being an illegal immigrant, and they required lawful immigrants to carry their papers on them at all times.

A federal judge blocked major parts of the Arizona law last year after the U.S. Department of Justice and several advocacy groups sued the state. The ongoing lawsuit also played into Baumgardner’s decision to pull his bill, he said.

The bill had been scheduled for its first hearing in the House Agriculture, Livestock and Natural Resources Committee next Monday. But Tuesday morning, the panel’s chairman, Rep. Jerry Sonnenberg, R-Sterling, announced that the hearing would be today and legislators would quickly dispose of HB 1107.

A Democrat on the agriculture committee said he didn’t think the bill was needed because Colorado passed a package of tough immigration bills in 2006.
............

Baumgardner also faced a potentially hostile panel with the House Agriculture Committee. Many farmers and ranchers complained that the 2006 bills drove away the legal immigrants they hired.

Baumgardner negotiated closely with agricultural lobbying groups.
