Vatican: Airstrikes killed 40 civilians in Tripoli

Some excerpts :

ROME - At least 40 civilians have been killed in airstrikes by Western forces on Tripoli, the top Vatican official in the Libyan capital told a Catholic news agency on Thursday citing witnesses.

"The so-called humanitarian raids have killed dozens of civilian victims in some neighborhoods of Tripoli," said Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli.

"I have collected several witness accounts from reliable people. In particular, in the Buslim neighborhood, due to the bombardments, a civilian building collapsed, causing the death of 40 people," he told Fides, the news agency of the Vatican missionary arm.

Libyan officials have taken foreign reporters to the sites of what they say were the aftermath of western air strikes on Tripoli but evidence of civilian casualties have been inconclusive.

Western powers say they have no confirmed evidence of civilian casualties.

Russell Pearce's Newest BFF -- the Glendale Substitute Teacher Who Had Such a Tough Time With "Nasty" Latino Students -- "Abused" Family Dog

Some excerpts :

The story's media shelf life predictably lasted but a few days, but now we have more to add--concerning Anthony Hill's own ongoing personal issues.

Records show that Hill, a father of eight, has been embroiled for years in an ugly Family Court dispute with his wife (they are legally separated).

A few years ago, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Susanna Pineda awarded the wife sole custody of the minor children (that's unusual), writing, "Father has a history of exploding by verbally calling the minor children vulgar names and using intimidating gestures towards Mother and the children...Father choked Mother at one point and physically abused the family pet in front of the children."

Choking Mom? Bad enough.

But physically abusing the family pet? Damn!

Judge Pineda concluded that the custody arrangement "is reasonable given Father's mental health and anger management issues...[his] erratic and violent behavior, [and his] long history of domestic violence against Mother and the children."

The court file notes that Hill was suspended in 2006 from his job at a supermarket "because of his irrational behavior," and was hospitalized for a time for depression and possible suicidal thoughts.

After his discharge, the file continues, Hill allegedly threatened his work supervisor and his wife -- the latter "fled the marital home with the minor children and all pets," and won a court order of protection.

Last January 11, according to a court Conciliation Services report, Hill, his estranged wife, and five of their children discussed the dysfunctional situation in a controlled setting.

"All [of the children] agreed that their father is not sincere about his past behavior," the facilitator wrote. "The father said he was and did not know what he could do."

Interestingly, Hill said a few days after his scathing letter against the Latino students came to light that his wife is of Hispanic heritage.

Though the guy apparently doesn't have a criminal record, the rather chilling Family Court file raises a question that we may get into at a later date:

Who the hell are our substitute teachers, and what kind of vetting process do they go through before being allowed into the classroom?

VIDEO, "Meet the Press", Ted Koppel from the BBC : "Why Did Libya Win The 'Humanitarian Defense Sweepstakes Of 2011?" - Millions of People brutally killed in graver situation than in Libya

Edward James "Ted" Koppel (born 1940) is an English-born American broadcast journalist, best known as the anchor for Nightline from the program's inception in 1980 until his retirement in late 2005. After leaving Nightline, Koppel worked as managing editor for the Discovery Channel before resigning in 2008. Koppel is currently a senior news analyst for National Public Radio and contributing analyst to BBC World News America.

Koppel argues that many countries throughout the world have had much greater civilian loss than Libya, including the Congo, Sudan and the Ivory Coast. Therefore, Koppel asks, "why it is that Libya, of all countries in that region, has won the humanitarian defense sweepstakes of 2011?" Koppel says it's a simple question, yet one that neither Obama nor anyone in his administration has been able to answer.

From David Rieff in The New Republic :

"Why Barack Obama, Nicolas Sarkozy, or David Cameron feel that who rules Libya is any of their affair, and why they were more intent on securing the (grudging) assent of the Arab League than the assent of their own legislatures, shows just how misguided the doctrine of humanitarian intervention really is. These leaders are more intent on imposing democracy by force than in honoring the democratic judgment of their parliaments at home. As a result, what we are left with is the angelic Caesarism of the “empire of the good”! And all with the nihil obstat of an intellectual class whose good intentions are not the solution to Power’s “problem from hell,” but rather the problem itself. Humanitarian savagery from 15,000 feet or from a missile-bearing submarine is still savagery. And the road to hell is still paved with good intentions."

The Neocons regroup in Libyan War
March 25, 2011

Bush, was written with two of his sons, Sam and Nat, and can be ordered at neckdeepbook.com. The Neocons regroup in Libyan War

Some excerpts :

Source of Jihadists

In their report entitled “Al-Qaeda’s Foreign Fighters in Iraq,” Felter and Fishman also analyzed al-Qaeda documents captured in 2007 showing personnel records of militants who flocked to Iraq for the war. The documents revealed that eastern Libya (the base of the anti-Gaddafi rebellion) was a hotbed for suicide bombers traveling to Iraq to kill American troops.

Felter and Fishman wrote that these so-called Sinjar Records disclosed that while Saudis comprised the largest number of foreign fighters in Iraq, Libyans represented the largest per-capita contingent by far. Those Libyans came overwhelmingly from towns and cities in the east.

“The vast majority of Libyan fighters that included their hometown in the Sinjar Records resided in the country’s Northeast, particularly the coastal cities of Darnah 60.2% (53) and Benghazi 23.9% (21),” Felter and Fishman wrote, adding:

“Both Darnah and Benghazi have long been associated with Islamic militancy in Libya, in particular for an uprising by Islamist organizations in the mid-1990s. ... One group — the Libyan Fighting Group … — claimed to have Afghan veterans in its ranks," a reference to mujahedeen who took part in the CIA-backed anti-Soviet war in Afghanistan in the 1980s, as did al-Qaeda founder, Osama bin Laden, a Saudi.

“The Libyan uprisings [in the 1990s] became extraordinarily violent," Felter and Fishman wrote. "Qadhafi used helicopter gunships in Benghazi, cut telephone, electricity, and water supplies to Darnah and famously claimed that the militants ‘deserve to die without trial, like dogs,’”

The authors added that Abu Layth al-Libi, Emir of Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG), “reinforced Benghazi and Darnah’s importance to Libyan jihadis in his announcement that LIFG had joined al-Qa’ida.

“’It is with the grace of God that we were hoisting the banner of jihad against this apostate [Gaddafi] regime under the leadership of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, which sacrificed the elite of its sons and commanders in combating this regime whose blood was spilled on the mountains of Darnah, the streets of Benghazi, the outskirts of Tripoli, the desert of Sabha, and the sands of the beach.’”

Some important al-Qaeda leaders operating in Pakistan’s tribal regions also are believed to have come from Libya. For instance, “Atiyah,” who was guiding the anti-U.S. war strategy in Iraq, was identified as a Libyan named Atiyah Abd al-Rahman.

It was Atiyah who urged a strategy of creating a quagmire for U.S. forces in Iraq, buying time for al-Qaeda headquarters to rebuild its strength in Pakistan.

“Prolonging the war [in Iraq] is in our interest,” Atiyah said in a letter that upbraided Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi for his hasty and reckless actions in Iraq.

The Atiyah letter was discovered by the U.S. military after Zarqawi was killed by an airstrike in June 2006.

Arizona : Robert Delgado, president and CEO of Hensley Beverage Company, owned largely by Cindy McCain, the wife of Sen. John McCain - Surprise !! ... Robert is against AZ Racism. - Latinos boycotted Budweiser Beer distributed by Hensley, after McCain became anti-Latino - Surprise, Budweiser is now a Brazilian beer

.
If you drink Budweiser you help a "Multilatina", if you refuse Budweiser you punish John McCain.

Either way you risk the salvation of your soul and eternal condemnation in Hell ( drinking the Devil's Piss for all eternity ! )

The Defeat of Budweiser Beer by Latinos that disliked the Maverick John McCain and his anti Latino stand on the Immigration Issue. Also the Saint Patrick's Day Coup d'Etat against Russell Pearce and his Gang of Republican Racists in the Arizona Senate, the coup was organized by Arizona's Who is Who of Business. Robert Delgado manages the Business of Cindy McCain and is a Business Superstar against Racism.

John McCain is just an opportunist - A Chameleon changing colors in every election.

Budweiser is now effectively a Brazilian beer.

Anheuser-Busch Inbev (BUD) has been a Brazilian company since 2008 and dominates Latin markets like Argentina, with about 75% of the total sales, and of course Brazil.

Brazilian Carlos Brito is the current chief executive officer of InBev ( owner of Anheuser Busch and Budweiser ). Brito replaced John Brock at the end of 2005. InBev's current Board of Directors include Allan Chapin, Carlos Alberto da Veiga Sicupira, Arnoud de Pret Roose de Calesberg, Jean-Luc Dehaene, Philippe de Spoelberch, Jorge Paulo Lemann, Roberto Moses Thompson Motta, Kees J. Storm, and Peter Harf (chairman of the Board).

On July 13, 2008, InBev agreed to buy Anheuser-Busch for a total value of $52 billion, which would create a new company to be named Anheuser-Busch InBev. It was reported that Anheuser will get two seats on the combined board. To obtain antitrust approval in the United States, InBev agreed to divest itself of the company that imports Labatt's beer, another InBev brand, into the United States; this transaction was completed on March 13, 2009.

The all-cash agreement, for $70 per share, or almost $52 billion, would create the world's largest brewer, uniting the maker of Budweiser and Michelob with the producer of Stella Artois, Bass and Brahma. The two companies would have yearly sales of more than $36.4 billion, surpassing the current number one brewer, London based SABMiller.

My computer board game "America" to understand American Foreign Policy and Immigration Policy - Reduce the USA to a board with beautiful pieces .... Bet and Earn Money and become smarter, this can get you a post in the State Department

.
My computer game "America" ( soon to be released )  with many betting chips of several colors and many boards for many players, it is similar to Computer Monopoly and more fun, more complexity to develop your brain .... ...... it may get you employment some day in the State Department. ..... If you like chess, then you will love it because it also has pawns, horses and towers and many other beautiful "virtual" and real pieces.

The Laws of the Game :

The Possibility of a Free Trade Agreement between the USA and ANY Latin American Nation is inversely proportional to the military involvement of the USA abroad ( like in Libya, etc .... )

The number of "Terrorists" or would be "Terrorists" is also directly proportional to the USA involvement in said "Third World Countries".

The number of Border Patrols, Security Guards in the border and "Minutemen" increases in direct proportion with the fear of Bearded Beturbaned Islamic Terrorists. Because the Right Wing drums "Terrorism" for pressing the SB1070 Copycats and the persecution of "Illegals".

The number of Agricultural American Corporations that move to Mexico and Central America is directly proportional to the Peasant Labor that is deported to those countries. The same relation for AgriBusiness Capital.

The number of teachers needed in schools is directly proportional to the number of students, if you evict "Anchor Babies" like four year old Emily Ruiz that was kicked out being an American Citizen then that means that your post and "good and easy life" of a teacher is put in high risk. Emily was kicked out without her parents. The same relation for teaching employment in Universities in a few years. University Professors are also sent to the "Tower a London" to meet the AX ( with capitals ) but they wait a little ......

The Right Wing and Tea Party votes are directly proportional to fear of Immigrants and the Beturbaned Bearded dressed in White Pajamas in my Computer Game "America". But this last law has a lower coefficient during presidential elections. That means that drumming "Illegal Alien" is not so powerful in the presidentials and may be harmful for bigots, but is highly effective in midterms.

The number of youngsters that any Nation needs is directly proportional to its military adventures .... or to its declining Economic Strength ( like in noble intelligent Japan - just low birth rates for decades ! )

So in order to instill more military might and new economic blood ( like buying new homes, diapers, milk bottles and baby stuff ) you may need "Anchor Babies" if your national uterus are failing with low birth rates.

So more Military Involvement abroad brings the need for more immigrants, unless women are superbly productive in their wombs. Because it is impossible to rule the World only with Computers, Missiles and Drones, you need manpower.

They are not the repugnant Jingoists, Militarists, Super Patriots of Chauvinism, that we constantly see in the media or newspapers. And Cenk and Nicholas are intelligent intellectuals.

We can say the same about president Obama, excellent intelligent guy.

Unfortunately there is a tendency to apply "Easy" military solutions to complex international problems :

My Questions :

1) How many countries are going to be invaded because of "Humanitarian Reasons" ??

2) How many simultaneous "Eternal Wars", Wars without end??

3) Is it right to invade any country with a "Bad Guy" ??

4) Who qualifies or demonizes the "Bad Guy", the people interested in Business, Oil, Military Industrial Complex, or madmen and jingoists in the Media  ??

5) What is the cost of being "Universal Policeman" ?? - Not only the economic cost, but the moral cost. ??

6) Didn't we see the Roman Empire, and the Spanish Empire ( 1500 - 1700 ) in many simultaneous wars ?? -- Study your preferred empire ! - Or any other empire and you see that tendency !

Rome in Germany and in what is now Iraq and Afghanistan ??

Spain in the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and the Caribbean Sea ??

Do Empires have a tendency to overstretch and overextend ??

An inclination, predisposition, propensity, or leaning to see everything in Military Terms and Options ??

And I have a Great Distrust for all those that think that they know "The Will of the People", because humans change opinion every day, and nobody has the "Eye of God" that sees everything.

If Sheriff Joe Arpaio runs for U. S. Senate then Arizona may help elect Obama 2012 - In 10 years Latino population has nearly doubled in Nevada, Virginia, and North Carolina. It has increased by 60 % or more in Indiana and Ohio. Obama won all five of those swing states in 2008 and needs them again

.
In Arizona there was a 22 percentage point gap between Latino voter registration and non-Latino white voter registration in 2008. Latino population boom will have 2012 election echoes
Voters in Nevada, Virginia, and North Carolina will be big players

Voters in Nevada, Virginia, and North Carolina will be big players

Some excerpts :

The 2010 Census revealed that in the past decade the adult Latino population has nearly doubled in Nevada, Virginia, and North Carolina. Also, it's increased by 60 percent or more in two Midwestern battleground states, Indiana and Ohio.

Obama won all five of those states in 2008 — two of them by very narrow margins — and they are likely to be decisive in next year’s balloting.

“What the Census figures suggest is that the road to White House in 2012 may well go through the Hispanic community” said Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice, an advocacy group that favors allowing illegal immigrants to work toward U.S. citizenship.

This data largely confirms what 2008 Census surveys and exit polls have already told us about the growing importance and lopsided Democratic leaning of Latino voters.

In Nevada, for example, Latinos were about 11 percent of registered voters in 2008, according to the Census’s Current Population Survey. About 90 percent of those registered actually voted, and according to exit polls, 76 percent of them cast ballots for Obama.

Likewise in Colorado, where Latinos comprised 9 percent of registered voters, with 87 percent of those individuals voting on Election Day. Obama won about three out of five Colorado Latino voters.

Nevada and Colorado were among the nine states that went for George W. Bush in 2004 but for Obama in 2008.

Latinos boosted Obama's margin in 2008 : National exit poll surveys in 2008 indicated that Obama won about two out of three Latino voters.

Based on 2008 exit poll data, if Latino voters were subtracted from the total, Obama would have lost two of the states that he won: New Mexico and Indiana. Even without those two states, he would still have won far more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House, but those voters helped create a larger margin.

She's the picture of the controversial -- anchor baby.
Four-year-old New Yorker Emily Ruiz was deported.
But -- she -- isn't illegal.
She was born in the US to illegal immigrants who say -- she's the victim of a political hot potato. Long Island's News 12 has the details.

"They say they were never given a chance to get their daughter before she was sent back to Guatemala"
"U.S. customs say they offered Emily's parents a chance to pick up their daughter at the airport, but - they say - they declined."

Long Island congressman Steve Israel contacted the Department of Homeland Security requesting the family be reunited. New York's ABC affiliate interviews Israel who says, officials failed to use common sense.

Congressman Steve Israel: "This never should have happened. This is what happens when you have a literal interpretation of a dysfunctional law. And so, we need to correct that immediately"

The New York Times explains this controversy comes at a time when the immigration debate is at its peak.

"The Ruizes find themselves on the front lines of a heated immigration debate: how to treat families in which the parents are here illegally, while their children, born in the United States, are citizens."

Iowa Representative Steve King and lawmakers from five other states introduced a bill in January to make it harder for children of illegals to receive their so-called "birthright." Time Magazine explains.

"The measures are squarely aimed at those whom many on the right derisively dub 'anchor babies': kids who are U.S. citizens from birth simply because their mothers sneaked across the border to have them ... there's nothing necessarily nutty about denying automatic citizenship to the children of people who shouldn't be in the country in the first place."

According to the Huffington Post, families are separated all the time - but it's usually when parents are deported and the child is left stranded in the US. It's a problem that isn't likely to be solved soon.

"Unless ICE improves its policies or Congress passes laws that allow some parents to gain legal status, families will likely continue to be separated under immigration enforcement."

But an opinion writer for CNN says if, as in this case, the "anchor baby" trick didn't work, why is it such an issue?

"Speaking of so-called anchor babies ... this case shows that the whole concept is bogus. Emily couldn't even keep herself anchored in the United States, let alone her parents."

Right now, Emily Ruiz is in Guatemala as her parents try to get her back to the U.S.. They are considering -- sending their lawyer to retrieve her.

Germany wanted no part of anything, going so far as to pull four of its ships from NATO command in the Mediterranean. France and Germany walked out of a NATO meeting on Monday, while Norway had planes in Crete ready to go but refused to let them fly until it had some idea who the hell is running the operation. And Turkey, whose prime minister four months ago proudly accepted the Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights, has been particularly resistant to the Libya operation from the beginning.

And as for the United States, who knows what American policy is. Administration officials insist we are not trying to bring down Gaddafi, even as the president insists that he must go. Although on Tuesday Obama did add "unless he changes his approach." Approach, mind you. In any case, for Obama, military objectives take a back seat to diplomatic appearances. The president is obsessed with pretending that we are not running the operation -- a dismaying expression of Obama's view that his country is so tainted by its various sins that it lacks the moral legitimacy to ... what? Save Third World people from massacre? Obama seems equally obsessed with handing off the lead role. Hand off to whom? NATO? Quarrelling amid Turkish resistance (see above), NATO still can't agree on taking over command of the airstrike campaign, which is what has kept the Libyan rebels alive. This confusion is purely the result of Obama's decision to get America into the war and then immediately relinquish American command. Never modest about himself, Obama is supremely modest about his country. America should be merely "one of the partners among many," he said Monday. No primus inter pares for him. Even the Clinton administration spoke of America as the indispensable nation. And it remains so. Yet at a time when the world is hungry for America to lead -- no one has anything near our capabilities, experience and resources -- America is led by a man determined that it should not. A man who dithers over parchment. Who starts a war from which he wants out right away. Good God. If you go to take Vienna, take Vienna. If you're not prepared to do so, better then to stay home and do nothing.

Most Americans support the US's limited involvement in Libya, so why do conservatives think that this is going to prevent him from being re-elected? Obama has taken the anti-Bush approach in the situation, and Americans are pleased so far. But, as Mike Papantonio points out on Fox Business's Follow The Money, this issue can only effect Obama if he gets us involved in another endless war.

The planning for this operation was a complete cluster fuck.

2. cluster fuck 432 up, 92 down

Victors in the Libya war (so far...)

Some excerpts :

3. Greater Persia
Tehran, of course, is not just happy because the world is distracted ... they're happy because so far the uprisings have benefitted them in countless ways. Enemies in Egypt and Libya have been deposed or soon will be, Shiites are rising up in Bahrain, the moderate Jordanians and the Saudis are nervous and the Israelis are perhaps most nervous of all as to what is happening. Further, America is going to come out of the Libya adventure even less inclined to devote time and resources to Iraq and Afghanistan thus creating voids the Iranians are already filling. We may call it the Arab Spring, but it doesn't translate that way in Farsi.

2. Skittish Authoritarians
Speaking of the Saudis ... but also thinking of the Yemenis and the Syrians and the Bahrainis not to mention the Chinese, the two-pronged message of this intervention is unmistakable. The first is that if you are going to crush the opposition, move quickly because the international community doesn't. And secondly, even if you take your time as you go about eliminating your enemies the one certain outcome of Operation Odyssey Clusterfuck is that everyone is going to think twice about ever undertaking a similar military adventure again.

1. The Abstainers
While much attention has been heaped on the diplomats who deftly wove together the U.N. vote in favor of instituting the no-fly zone, not enough has turned to the alternative power bloc that emerged during the vote: the Abstainers. The group, the BRICs plus Germany, may have sat on the sidelines for the vote but by imagining the outcome had they not done so, their potential power is made clear. China and Russia have veto power. And of the four countries most likely to join them as Security Council permanent members in the years ahead, three of them rounded out this group. (Barack Obama's non-endorsement of Brazil's candidacy notwithstanding. After all, Brazil is not a likely candidate because America wants it to be so -- it's a likely candidate because it's the seventh largest economy in the world, will be fifth largest in just a few years, has the fifth largest population on the planet and is the dominant country on its continent.) China and Russia started attacking the mission in Libya within seeming moments of its launch and Germany has just walked out of the NATO operation. This group or the bulk of it will soon be as the alternative to the old trans-Atlantic alliance that you'll note is not at the moment one of the winners on this list (though, admittedly, give this a couple days, some twists and turns, and the departure of Qaddafi and that could change.)

Libya: You want clarity? Here it is

Some excerpts :

Everybody's going all wobbly over Libya, except those who never liked the idea in the first place. Tom's advice: Calm down. We have done what we set out to do in Libya. We kicked the door down, and with radars and SAM sites degraded, have made it possible for lesser air forces to patrol the skies over Qaddafi.

We should now say, OK, we have created the conditions, time for you all to have the courage of your convictions. The goal now for the United States, I think, is a negative one: To not be conducting a no-fly zone over Libya 5 years or even 5 months from now. If the French and Italians want to park the good ships Charles de Gaulle and Garibaldi off the Libyan coast, good. And if the Arab states want to maintain an air cap over Benghazi, fine. Step right up, fellas.

As for the American military, let's knock off the muttering in the ranks about clear goals and exit strategies. Fellas, you need to understand this is not a football game but a soccer match. For the last 10 years, our generals have talked about the need to become adaptable, to live with ambiguity. Well, this is it. The international consensus changes every day, so our operations need to change with it. Such is the nature of war, as Clausewitz reminds us. Better Obama's cautious ambiguity than Bush's false clarity. Going into Iraq, scooping up the WMD, and getting out by September 2003 -- now that was a nice clear plan. And a dangerously foolish one, too.

What intervention in Libya tells us about the neocon-liberal alliance

Some excerpts :

So if you're baffled by how Mr. "Change You Can Believe In" morphed into Mr. "More of the Same," you shouldn't really be surprised. George Bush left in disgrace and Barack Obama took his place, but he brought with him a group of foreign policy advisors whose basic world views were not that different from the people they were replacing. I'm not saying their attitudes were identical, but the similarities are probably more important than the areas of disagreement. Most of the U.S. foreign policy establishment has become addicted to empire, it seems, and it doesn't really matter which party happens to be occupying Pennsylvania Avenue.

................

More importantly, despite Obama's declaration that he would not send ground troops into Libya -- a statement made to assuage an overcommitted military, reassure a skeptical public, or both -- what is he going to do if the air assault doesn't work? What if Qaddafi hangs tough, which would hardly be surprising given the dearth of attractive alternatives that he's facing? What if his supporters see this as another case of illegitimate Western interferences, and continue to back him? What if he moves forces back into the cities he controls, blends them in with the local population, and dares us to bomb civilians? Will the United States and its allies continue to pummel Libya until he says uncle? Or will Obama and Sarkozy and Cameron then decide that now it's time for special forces, or even ground troops?

And even if we are successful, what then? As in Saddam Hussein's Iraq, over forty years of Qaddafi's erratic and despotic rule have left Libya in very poor shape despite its oil wealth. Apart from some potentially fractious tribes, the country is almost completely lacking in effective national institutions. If Qaddafi goes we will own the place, and we will probably have to do something substantial to rebuild it lest it turn into an exporter of refugees, a breeding ground for criminals, or the sort of terrorist "safe haven" we're supposedly trying to prevent in Afghanistan.

But the real lesson is what it tells us about America's inability to resist the temptation to meddle with military power. Because the United States seems so much stronger than a country like Libya, well-intentioned liberal hawks can easily convince themselves that they can use the mailed fist at low cost and without onerous unintended consequences. When you have a big hammer the whole world looks like a nail; when you have thousand of cruise missiles and smart bombs and lots of B-2s and F-18s, the whole world looks like a target set. The United States doesn't get involved everywhere that despots crack down on rebels (as our limp reaction to the crackdowns in Yemen and Bahrain demonstrate), but lately we always seems to doing this sort of thing somewhere. Even a smart guy like Barack Obama couldn't keep himself from going abroad in search of a monster to destroy.

And even if this little adventure goes better than I expect, it's likely to come back to haunt us later. One reason that the Bush administration could stampede the country to war in Iraq was the apparent ease with which the United States had toppled the Taliban back in 2001. After a string of seeming successes dating back to the 1991 Gulf War, U.S. leaders and the American public had become convinced that the Pentagon had a magic formula for remaking whole countries without breaking a sweat. It took the debacle in Iraq and the Taliban resurgence in Afghanistan to remind us of the limits of military power, and it seems to have taken Obama less than two years on the job to forget that lesson. We may get reminded again in Libya, but if we don't, the neocon/liberal alliance will be emboldened and we'll be more likely to stumble into a quagmire somewhere else.

And who's the big winner here? Back in Beijing, China's leaders must be smiling as they watch Washington walk open-eyed into another potential quagmire.

Blithely off to war - Has President Obama thought Libya through?

Blithely off to war

Some excerpts :

But if Khadafy can't be beaten by the rebels, are we prepared to supply their military deficiencies? If the decapitation of his regime produces what the removal of Saddam Hussein did -- bloody chaos -- what then are our responsibilities regarding the tribal vendettas we may have unleashed? How long are we prepared to police the partitioning of Libya?

Explaining his decision to wage war, Obama said Khadafy has "lost the confidence of his own people and the legitimacy to lead." Such boilerplate seems designed to anesthetize thought. When did Khadafy lose his people's confidence? When did he have legitimacy?

American doctrine is that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. So there are always many illegitimate governments. When is it America's duty to scrub away these blemishes on the planet? Is there a limiting principle of humanitarian interventionism? If so, would Obama take a stab at stating it?

Congress' power to declare war resembles a muscle that has atrophied from long abstention from proper exercise. This power was last exercised on June 5, 1942 (against Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary), almost 69 years, and many wars, ago.

It thus may seem quaint, and certainly is quixotic, for Indiana's Richard Lugar -- ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee -- to say, correctly, that Congress should debate and vote on this.

There are those who think that if the United Nations gives the United States permission to wage war, the Constitution becomes irrelevant. Let us find out who in Congress supports this proposition, which should be resoundingly refuted, particularly by Republicans insisting that government, and especially the executive, should be on a short constitutional leash. If all GOP presidential aspirants are supine in the face of unfettered presidential war-making and humanitarian interventionism, the GOP field is radically insufficient.

Libya: Too much, too late
March 21, 2011

By Richard N. Haass
Richard N. Haass is the president of the Council on Foreign Relations and author of “War of Necessity, War of Choice: A Memoir of Two Iraq Wars.”

Libya: Too much, too late

Some excerpts :

The United States has now embarked on its third war of choice in less than a decade. And like the 2003 Iraq war and the Afghan war after 2009, this war of choice is ill-advised.

Libya is a war of choice for two reasons. First, U.S. interests are decidedly less than vital. Libya accounts for only 2 percent of world oil production. The scale of the humanitarian crisis is not unique; indeed, this is not strictly speaking a humanitarian intervention. It is a decision to participate in Libya’s civil war.

It is a war of choice for a second reason: The United States and the world have other options besides military intervention. Civil wars tend to burn out and come to an end sooner barring significant foreign intervention. A range of tools, from economic sanctions to covert action, could weaken the regime, bolster the opposition or both.

In this last regard, President Barack Obama has done himself no favor by demanding that Libya’s leader of four decades, Muammar Qadhafi, give up all political power. By doing so the Obama administration has essentially denied itself the diplomatic tool.

Why should Qadhafi stop pursuing his domestic opponents if he must leave office – and, worse yet from his perspective, face possible trial for war crimes?

The U.S. demand for Gaddafi’s ouster causes two other problems as well. First, it goes beyond the U.N. resolution that it is the basis for current military action. The world is demanding that Qadhafi hold off attacking rebel positions and that he pull back from several cities. Implicit here is that he can remain in power if he complies. Will Washington accept this?

Second, the U.S. demand is also inconsistent with stated limits on what it is prepared to do to oust Qadhafi. Obama promised his fellow citizens there would be no U.S. boots on the ground in Libya.

But limited means cannot always be relied on to deliver essentially unlimited aims. To the contrary, big goals often require a big price to be paid.

This intervention is ill-advised for a number of reasons. Under almost any scenario, whether Qadhafi’s removal from power, his falling back and holding off as the U.N. resolution requires or his fighting on successfully, something more than the current international military effort —which now involves considerably more than just imposing a no-fly zone — will be required.

Super Policemen in Movies, "Universal Policemen" policing the world : Bruce Willis, Arnold Scharzenegger, Clint Eastwood ... Dirty Harris, ... Jean Reno European Supermacho. Are we brainwashed ?? - Super Policemen beating up villainous brutes

The Latest News make me thing of how powerful to guide the world's most important decisions is the Myth of Super Policemen.

History of Tough and Hard "Dirty Harrys" ( like Clint Eastwood ) ....

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Italian: Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo) is a 1966 Italian/Spanish epic spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach in the title roles.

Die Hard 1 (1988). This superbly paced action film balanced laconic humor and wholesale destruction as Bruce Willis' character single handedly battles a gang of ruthless international thieves in a Los Angeles skyscraper. Willis reprized the role of tough guy cop "John McClane" in the eagerly anticipated sequel Die Hard 2 (1990) set at snow bound Washington's Dulles International Airport as a group of renegade Special Forces soldiers seek to repatriate a corrupt South American general.

Excellent box office returns demanded a further sequel Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995) this time also starring Samuel L. Jackson as a cynical Harlem shop owner unwittingly thrust into assisting McClane during a terrorist bombing campaign on a sweltering day in NYC.

The apocalyptic thriller Twelve Monkeys (1995), the Luc Besson directed sci-fi opus The Fifth Element (1997) and the M. Night Shyamalan directed spine tingling epic The Sixth Sense (1999).

Unfortunately the Governator has fooled our Arnold Schwarzenegger, and we have seen no more Terminators.

I am a fan of Super Policeman Jean Reno and I could not believe that he had a Spanish Origin.

Jean Reno (French born 1948) is a French actor with Spanish roots. Working in French, English, and Italian, he has appeared not only in numerous successful Hollywood productions such as The Pink Panther, Godzilla, The Da Vinci Code, Mission: Impossible, Ronin and Couples Retreat, but also in European productions such as the French films Les Visiteurs (1993) and Léon (1994) along with the 2005 Italian film The Tiger and the Snow.

Reno was born Juan Moreno y Herrera-Jiménez in Casablanca, Morocco. His Spanish parents were natives of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), and had moved to North Africa to find work and escape the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. His father was a linotypist. His mother died when he was a teenager, and he has a younger sister called María Teresa ("Maite"). Reno was raised Catholic. He moved to France at the age of seventeen and studied acting in the Cours Simon School of Drama.

Indiana Jones ( Harrison Ford ) does not qualify for my list. - I must also exclude Jackie Chan, because these two last guys have some tenderness that appeals to Children.

The problem with being "Universal Policeman" is that Reality may one day catch you up and you will see how you are falling in a trap of imbecility and moral degradation.

These myths are not so innocent.

VIDEO and Analysis of the Racist Letter and the Hatred of Lori Klein, Senator of Arizona and right hand of President of Arizona Senate Russell Pearce - Last Kicks of a drowing man ??

.

These are the Last Kicks of a drowning man, not because Racism is dying, but the Political Career  and Future of such racists as Russell Pearce, Jan Brewer and Lori Klein is very clouded, they are now rolling down the hill.

The "Who is Who of Arizona Business" ( 60 executives ) sent a letter to Russell Pearce condemning his Racist Policies, and the Arizona Legislature denied his last Racist Inventions of Unconstitutional Bills.

Let's analyze this : I strongly suspect that this is a concoction of a sick man or woman, if not Lori Klein, a "substitute teacher" that may be a fake or an unworthy teacher, just a despicable bureaucrat, not a true teacher with the vocation to teach and love children and correct their wrongdoings.

Every teacher knows that sooner or later he or she will face hostile students, because of many reasons, not all of them Racial or Racist or having to do with Race.

A Paranoid or sick teacher detonates children that are prepared to explode, for example because of the many Racist Laws that Arizona has passed.

Have you considered how the Racist Laws of Arizona are impacting on the souls, hearts and minds of Arizona's Children ??

Have you not imagined that all these hatred of Russell Pearce, Governor Jan Brewer and Lori Klein is going not to produce a reaction ??

Do you realize that people like Russell Pearce and Lori Klein poison the "minds and hearts" of young children ??, Latino or not, White or not, Black or not, Asian or not, Indian or not, Colored or Whatever ?

This letter is a sign of the degradation of the Arizona Legislature, this is unworthy of the most backward and poor country, even in the most primitive country people can realize that this is garbage.

Even if this letter was written by a true certified or experienced teacher, Lori Klein shows her mental poverty, her lack of culture, her lack of intellect by reading this letter.

The teacher is clearly a detonator of explosives .... If a teacher offends, the children may reply in kind.

But this letter has all the signs of Concoction, a Witches Brew or Brewer. Like the famous lies and disparate tales of Jan Brewer.

Republican lawmakers in Arizona intended to put their state at the forefront of a national debate this year over "birthright" citizenship laws, but the state Senate on Thursday rejected a whole series of conservative immigration bills.

Some Republicans joined Democrats in opposition to a set of "birthright bills" that would have stripped citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants, the Arizona Republic reports.

The Arizona bills were part of a coordinated effort among Republican lawmakers in a handful of states to push the "birthright" issue at the state level and force a Supreme Court challenge.

Along with the birthright bills, the Arizona Senate rejected four other conservative immigration measures: legislation to ban illegal immigrants from state universities, a bill to make it a crime for illegal immigrants to drive in Arizona, a bill requiring school districts to check the legal status of students and a bill requiring hospitals to check the legal status of patients.

The legislation failed after leaders in the business community, as well as citizens against the stricter immigration measures, urged lawmakers to reject the bills.

A coalition of 60 CEOs from Arizona sent a letter to the Arizona state Senate earlier this week, the Phoenix Business Journal reports.

"Arizona's lawmakers and citizens are right to be concerned about illegal immigration," the letter said. "But we must acknowledge that when Arizona goes it alone on this issue, unintended consequences inevitably occur."

The business leaders said the state's economy suffered last year because of the boycotts and negative perceptions of the state that were borne from the debate over Arizona's controversial law SB 1070, which made it a state crime to be in the country without documentation. The CEOs added that Arizona lawmakers should leave immigration issues to federal lawmakers, pointing out that some Republicans in the U.S. Congress have already introduced federal birthright legislation.

Meanwhile, in Tucson and Flagstaff, children held symbolic sit-ins to protest the birthright bills, the Huffington Post reports.

Even though the measures failed, Republican state Senate President Russell Pearce suggested he would eventually pass the bills, according to the Huffington Post.

"It took me a while on 1070, too," Pearce said. "I introduced it in '05, '06, '07, '08, '09 and 2010 before we had a governor that would sign it. And we've become the envy of this nation with 25 states writing legislation modeled after 1070."

Arab League Criticizes Libya No-Fly Zone Implementation

Some excerpts :

The Arab League is criticizing the international air assault on Libya, a week after asking the United Nations to impose a no-fly zone on the North African nation.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa said Sunday that the United Nations' implementation of the no-fly zone on Libya has gone beyond what the league wanted.

He told reporters in Cairo that the league wants to protect civilians, not bomb them.

Separately, Russia called on the international community to stop what it called the "indiscriminate" use of force in Libya, saying it was killing civilians.

The Russian foreign ministry issued a statement Sunday that said the air raids on Libya have included attacks on non-military targets, killing 48 civilians and wounded more than 150 others.

India regrets air strikes by U.S.-led coalition forces in Libya

Some excerpts :

“India views with grave concern the continuing violence, strife and deteriorating humanitarian situation in Libya. It regrets the air strikes that are taking place. The measures adopted should mitigate and not exacerbate an already difficult situation for the people of the country,” Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement here “Spoke to Ambassador (M) Manimekalai in Tripoli a short while ago. She is cool and calm. Harrowing Saturday night though with jets screaming above, she says the Ambassador,” Foreign Secretary, Nirupama Rao said in her tweet.

Further more, the Ministry said India hopes that the air strikes would not harm innocent civilians, foreign nationals and diplomatic missions and their personnel, who are still in Libya. “India calls upon all parties to abjure use of or the threat of use of force and to resolve their differences through peaceful means and dialogue in which the U.N. and regional organisations should play their roles,” it added.
