I was reading a book written by a Confederate Soldier ( In "The Atlantic" magazine ) : He never repented of being a Confederate, which he equated to being an Aristocratic Southerner. He repeats one million times "State Rights", "State Rights", "State Rights"

And this Great Soldier or Officer of the South never mentions the color of Human Beings or the existence of Slaves. For him the Slaves never existed and Black People do not exist.

There are no Human Considerations of Oppression and Suffering, only "State Rights" and gallantry in battle, the aristocracy and nobility of the South that defends "State Rights".... because the Southerners are the bravest men in the Whole World.

The Federal Government is despicable for this man of Bravery, Courage, Valor and Gallantry in Battle.

Some Confederates never repented and never begged for a pardon to Blacks or to Northerners.

And there are still many Confederates today saying : "State Rights", "State Rights", "State Rights", ..... "Ad Infinitum".

Like my confederate soldier, no wonder that many people want to reenact the Civil War in their Spare Time.

During the Republican primary, Romney endorsed the Arizona law as a “model” for the country, but he has since walked back that statement as he moves into general-election mode.

His campaign said last week that the Romney endorsed only an element of the law requiring employers to verify an employee’s immigration status, rather than the controversial provision compelling local law enforcement to question a person’s legal status.

For Obama, the wave of lawsuits against state governments, including Alabama, South Carolina and Utah, hold some political risk because opinion polls show the measures to be popular with voters.

Justice Department officials insist that political considerations played no part in the decision to sue Arizona or the other states. However, many analysts say there’s more upside than downside politically in challenging the state-level immigration laws.

Gary Segura, a professor of political science at Stanford University who specializes in Latino issues, said while most voters support the idea of cracking down on illegal immigrants — at least in broad strokes — the vast majority of those voters don’t list the issue as a major priority.

“It’s not even a huge motivator among Republican voters,” Segura added.

He said the case has the potential to win Obama some support by adding another reason for Latino voters to vote Democratic, particularly if the Supreme Court upholds the Arizona law, which Obama has spoken out against.

Any major movement in support of Obama on the immigration issue will be less about the current administration’s policies and more about fear of the Republican alternative, Segura said.

So he begins to try to change the KKK to less aggressive policies and that way this top member weakens this criminal organization.

I know that the "Deacons for Defense and Justice" really existed and were well behaved, but I am not sure if this all happened in this factory of Bogalusa Louisiana as presented in the movie.

Cleaning America from Blacks using "Attrition by lynching" failed because Blacks were necessary for economic activities as laborers in Agriculture, Construction, etc ... And not only that but also Blacks were useful as consumers and buyers of products.

"Attrition by enforcement" to clean "Illegal Aliens" is also failing at this moment and in this precise minute because Business needs people as laborers, consumers, etc ...

Kicking out people from a state is the worst possible stupidity if you think as a businessman, because you lose labor and consumers. Look at Arizona, Alabama, Georgia, etc ... losing billions upon billions of dollars in rotten crops and empty supermarkets without customers. Many shops and businesses have closed for lack of customers, and teachers suffer for lack of student children.

But Kobach — whose hardline ideas Romney adopted during the primary — tells me that the only way to make such an approach acceptable is for these illegal immigrants to be required to return to their home country before getting the non-immigrant visa.

Kobach’s status with the Romney campaign is murky. While a Romney spokesperson recently said Kobach is merely a “supporter,” Kobach clarified the other day that the Romney campaign had privately confided to him that he remains an adviser to it on immigration policy.

But in a sense, Kobach’s exact status may be beside the point. His strict standard for a GOP DREAM Act he would be able to find acceptable signals that many right-wing immigration hardliners may oppose any GOP DREAM Act that constitutes anything meaningful in the way of a new policy, and that any effort by Romney to make inroads among Latinos by supporting such a policy could ignite a bitter intraparty battle

As a Republican who cares deeply about the future of the party and wants to see us win in November, I was thrilled this week when Mitt Romney told attendees at a closed-door fundraiser that he supports Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's Republican alternative to the Dream Act. The next step: Romney should endorse the proposal publicly and challenge Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to bring it up for a vote in the Senate.

This would be good for Romney, good for Republicans, good for many hopeful young immigrants and good for America.

Like the original, bipartisan Dream Act, Rubio's alternative is designed to help young people who were brought to this country illegally as children and are now making lives here — this is the only "home" they know — but are unable, because of their immigration status, to attend college legally, serve in the military or work anywhere but in the underground economy.

COMMENTARY AND ANALYSIS: Presidential Election 2012

Unlike the original, which Romney and some Republicans reject as amnesty, Rubio's version — let's call it Dream 2.0 — would not grant these young people automatic citizenship. Instead of green cards, which open the door to citizenship, most would get non-immigrant visas allowing them to remain in the U.S. legally. But neither would the new bill bar them from citizenship. No American with any sense of history wants to create a caste of second-class sub-citizens. Dream 2.0 grants green cards to young people who have served honorably in the military. And it leaves open the possibility that other beneficiaries could eventually become citizens by getting in a different green-card queue — one based on marriage, employment or family ties.

This is a thoughtful compromise, and I can see why it appeals to Romney — it's consistent with the best of Republican values. These young people have committed no crime — their parents brought them to the U.S. involuntarily. Dream 2.0 would encourage assimilation. It would reward individual achievement and service — attending college and enlisting in the military. It would make all the difference for the young people who benefit. And it would be a boon for America — surely it's better for the nation if these promising young people make the most of their potential.

Twelve Secret Service agents who were in Cartagena,(Car-tay-hayne-ya) Colombia to provide security for the President were all sent back to the United States after allegations of misconduct. CNN reports

"But before the president stepped off the plane yesterday in Cartagena, a dozen of his Secret Service agents were sent packing and replaced by a different set of agents."

CBS News reports the allegations include accusations about money.

"... one or more of the officers were involved with prostitutes and that there was a dispute over payment."

Prostitution is legal in some parts of Colombia. Police were involved after one of the women complained, and that complaint was later filed with the U.S. Embassy.

"... the situation got serious enough that diplomats were brought in to mediate and the Secret Service agents were expelled from the country."

Agents were sent ahead to put the president's security in place for the Summit of the Americas. ABC News says the President wasn't in danger.

"At no point, the Secret Service told us was the President's security compromised."

CNN says the allegations distract from the summit's purpose.

"The incident ... overshadowed the start of the sixth Summit of the Americas, where the president was to focus on trade, energy and regional security."

This is not the first time the Secret Service has had a run-in with the law ... back in 2011, there were a couple of other incidents...

"Last November ... was charged with second-degree murder after shooting a man during a dispute outside a McDonald's in Hawaii."

...

"In August, an off-duty Secret Service agent was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving"

An investigation has been launched.

The White House is not commenting and referring all questions to the Secret Service.

The Court's own decision, however, emphasizes the role of the democratic electoral process in confining the abuse of the Congressional power, stating that, "At the beginning Chief Justice Marshall described the Federal commerce power with a breadth never yet exceeded. He made emphatic the embracing and penetrating nature of this power by warning that effective restraints on its exercise must proceed from political rather than from judicial processes."

Subsequent developments :

United States v. Lopez (1995) was the first decision in six decades to invalidate a federal statute on the grounds that it exceeded the power of the Congress under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. The opinion described Wickard v. Filburn as "perhaps the most far reaching example of Commerce Clause authority over intrastate commerce." United States v. Lopez held that while Congress had broad lawmaking authority under the Commerce Clause, the power was limited, and did not extend so far from "commerce" as to authorize the regulation of the carrying of handguns, especially when there was no evidence that carrying them affected the economy on a massive scale.

The Supreme Court has since relied heavily on Filburn in upholding the power of the federal government to prosecute individuals who grow their own medicinal marijuana pursuant to state law. The Supreme Court subsequently held that, as with the home grown wheat at issue in the present case, home grown marijuana is a legitimate subject of federal regulation because it competes with marijuana that moves in interstate commerce. As the Court explained in Gonzales v. Raich (2005):

"Wickard thus establishes that Congress can regulate purely intrastate activity that is not itself 'commercial', in that it is not produced for sale, if it concludes that failure to regulate that class of activity would undercut the regulation of the interstate market in that commodity."

One commentator has written that "In the wake of New Deal era Supreme Court jurisprudence it has become clear that Congress has acquired the authority to regulate private economic activity in a manner near limitless in its purview."[3] Justice Rehnquist's opinion in United States v. Lopez explains:

Jones & Laughlin Steel, Darby, and Wickard ushered in an era of Commerce Clause jurisprudence that greatly expanded the previously defined authority of Congress under that Clause. In part, this was a recognition of the great changes that had occurred in the way business was carried on in this country. Enterprises that had once been local or at most regional in nature had become national in scope. But the doctrinal change also reflected a view that earlier Commerce Clause cases artificially had constrained the authority of Congress to regulate interstate commerce.

"Being a Stranger or Foreigner in Nigeria is a Great Honor and "The Alien" should sit in the place of Honor" .... and I add that this is in great contrast to many other not so welcoming and not so open "advanced" cultures.

Summary:

Nimi leads a relatively peaceful life amongst the female dominated Nigerian community in a picturesque coastal town in southern France. Life consists of working as a landscape gardener, looking after her eight year old son Sammy and attending exuberant masses at the local African church. Nimi's unmarried status (and son) are frowned upon by her traditionalist neighbours and her mother Nene is very keen to marry her off to confer her with respectability. When the handsome Reverend Fola moves into town and shows interest in Nimi, it is like a godsend for Nene who desperately attempts to get the two together.

Nimi's son Sammy, however, has other ideas. He has confused writer Matthew Field, the creator of his beloved comic action hero Saracen, with his heroic creation and deems him a much more suitable match than the Reverend Fola for his mother. He tries at length to persuade Matthew to marry his mother instead, using every means at his disposal to unite them.

Against their expectations, love blossoms. Although Nimi has resigned herself to marriage to the rather unexciting Reverend Fola, she is intrigued by Matthew. However, she is also very aware of Matthew's married status, distrust of women and general unwillingness to commit to a relationship. In contrast, Matthew is drawn to Nimi not just for her beauty, but the stability of her African way of life and an innate goodness which throws him completely off-guard.

The Republican majority on the Supreme Court will likely soon abolish affirmative action altogether. Charles Murray, who two decades ago published a book arguing that blacks were intellectually inferior to whites, is beloved by conservative commentators (“Arguably the most consequential social scientist alive”—Jonah Goldberg) even as the larger social science community regards Murray as a crackpot.

The Republican party’s tax policies favor rich “job creators,” who tend disproportionately to be white, and its opposition to the welfare state—initially to cash transfers, then to non-cash assistance like food stamps, and finally even to unemployment benefits—tends to harm lower-income people, who tend disproportionately to be black.

The Republican party’s criminal justice policies have put an appallingly high proportion of black men in jail, often for petty drug offenses. Republicans tend to favor the death penalty, which leads to execution of a disproportionate number of blacks. Southern Republicans struggle to suppress a dewey-eyed sentimentality for the Confederacy, even though their party was founded in opposition to slavery, and even though its greatest leader, Abraham Lincoln, fought a war against Confederate secession. None of these affinities or policies is inherently racist. But taken together, they’re going to be a lot more attractive to racists than the liberal policies of the Democratic party.

Dismissing the occasional racist is one way for conservatives to deal with their racism problem. Reconsidering aspects of their ideology that repel African Americans and other minorities and attract allies with toxic views on race would be another. But that won’t happen anytime soon.

One brief filed in opposition to SB 1070 was joined by a former Secretary of State (Madeline Albright), a former Secretary of Defense (William Cohen), and two former ambassadors to the United Nations (Albright and John Negroponte). Another brief was submitted on behalf of two former commissioners of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Doris Meissner and James Ziglar). When a man's hand shot up in the air to ask a question, Romney seemed to take note that he was holding papers, typically a sign that the questioner has a long-winded question they've chosen to write out, and as the man began to speak remarked, "I know where this is going. Ha. Ha. Ha."

"Your Mormon faith might not be a concern in the election but I think it might be as well as I found these verses in the Mormon book," said 28-year-old Bret Hatch, as the microphone turned on.

As Hatch trialed off, Romney interjected: "Why don't you give me a question?"

"Ok, well, in the Mormon book it says there were a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan that they were despised," Hatch continued.

"I'm sorry we're just not going to have a discussion about religion in my view, but if you have a question, I'll be happy to answer your question," Romney said.

"I guess my question is do you believe it's a sin for a white man to marry and procreate with a black?" asked Hatch.

Having spent the better part of a decade doing research in Buckley’s archives, I can attest that it was no easy matter for Buckley to take on Welch and his Society.

Welch was a retired candy maker who created the Birch Society in 1958 to mobilize conservatives against what he saw as an imminent Communist takeover of the United States from within. Buckley himself had sounded similar alarms on behalf of red-baiting Senator Joseph McCarthy, but believed that Welch crossed into paranoia with his assertion that America’s government leaders—including President Dwight Eisenhower, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, CIA Director Allen Dulles, and most members of the Supreme Court—were active Communist agents. Buckley was also distressed by other Birch claims: that Red Chinese armies were massing at the Mexican border to invade the U.S.; University of Chicago professors were plotting to deprive Americans of their rights to vote and hold property; and elite groups such as the Council on Foreign Relations and the Bildergbergers were seeking to merge the U.S. with the Soviet Union in a one-world socialist government. The Birch Society’s notion that those who doubted these theories thereby revealed themselves as Communist sympathizers struck Buckley as self-reinforcing lunacy.

Above all, Buckley wanted conservatism to be a responsible and effective governing philosophy. He recognized that a movement that delegitimizes its opponents as Communists and traitors is doomed to be irresponsible and ineffective. He warned against conservative triumphalism and refusal to compromise. He had been mentored by Whittaker Chambers on the need to balance the ideal with the practical, and to strive for conservative advances that inevitably would fall short of utopia. To live, Buckley reminded conservatives, is to maneuver.
